Life Insurance
Hey pilots,
I'm shopping around for life insurance. Wife and I are expecting our first child. I'm currently in flight training. I have life insurance through my current employer, which thankfully covers the flying part, however I'm interested in other possibilities.
Any recommendations? I know premiums are high for GA pilots.

Re: Life Insurance
Not necessarily. One company wanted to either not cover my flying (which is of no use to me) or double the premium...significantly more than a smoker's premium. Took my business elsewhere, I shopped around and got a very reasonable rate elsewhere that covered my flying at no additional expense. The aviation questionnaire did include the question of whether of not I fly experimental aircraft (to which I honestly answered no).JungianJugular wrote:Hey pilots,

Re: Life Insurance
I have had several life insurance policies through the years as a GA pilot. Manulife and State Farm come to mind but that doesn't mean much as these things can change over time. While the absolutely lowest premiums might not be accessible to us as GA pilots, do not accept that you have to pay significantly more. A GOOD insurance broker will know which company(ies) to approach.JungianJugular wrote:EDIT: What insurance company did you go through?

I think you'll find that if you fly rotary wing, you will have higher premiums than fixed wing. In those things the banks send out offering you insurance, you can't get insurance if you're a chopper pilot.
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience often comes from bad judgment.

Re: Life Insurance
I know my own policy says something to the effect of not covering aircraft accidents unless I'm on a regularly scheduled commercial flight.
Re: Life Insurance
Sun life- only question was how many hours per year do i operate an aircraft. 70 hours didn't change my premium.
Re: Life Insurance
I can identify with cgzro. As a pilot who flies for fun / business (but flying is not my profession), I also ran into the exclusion where life insurance would not cover if I was part of the crew. I lived with that for a few years as I wasn't flying a lot then. My policy was with Manulife at the time.
Since then, I worked with an insurance broker, and ended up with more coverage, and lower premium. And it covers me when I'm part of the crew or the only pilot.
pm me if you would like more info.
