Poll: Best Company - Pacific
I am actually kind of curious if this will work. In the Best Company forum, a bunch of people are discussing what is the best company in each region of Canada, and all the many many factors that make a company the best for different people. I think it really just boils down to what company you want to work for the most in each region. This is my attempt at a poll. We are limited to 15 options, so I used the Transport Canada page to find out which companies have the most planes in each region. Also I took out all the flight schools and helicopter companies, they probably would need their own poll. This is just what Transport calls the Pacific region, and you can choose up to three companies. If a lot of people vote, then we can make a poll for all the other regions.
Also Air Canada and Westjet and a bunch aren't on the list because they aren't listed in this region.

So companies like Jazz, Westjet or Air Canada may have more pilots in this region and do more flying in this region but don't make the list why again

I think it's because they will appear when their region comes around. Westjet will be part of "Prairies??". Air Canada will show up in the Quebec Poll?av8ts wrote:So companies like Jazz, Westjet or Air Canada may have more pilots in this region and do more flying in this region but don't make the list why again
Re: Poll: Best Company - Pacific

Is it just me... or does anyone else get the 'Danger Bay' theme in their head when they think of Harbour Air? That show made me fall in love with the Beaver... and Ocean Hellman.
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: Poll: Best Company - Pacific
I think it's kind of skewed, based upon number of aircraft.
The best job I've ever had, had 2 airplanes and grew to 4.
One of the worst jobs I've held, had 14.
Not to mention, how many of those companies are stepping stones up the career ladder?
I think the most telling of a company, is attrition and what they do about it.

Also keep in mind the financial health of the companies. Both KFC and North Cariboo are good companies but they have laid off a significant number of pilots recently. I would be surprised if they do any hiring in the near future.

I should think that any company that has laid off staff would be automatically exempt from "best" status!

Re: Poll: Best Company - Pacific
Well, if they refused to ever lay anyone off and therefore went bankrupt so everyone lost their jobs I guess that would rule out best status as well eh.

Re: Poll: Best Company - Pacific
That may be so.... but circumstances outside of the company's control can certainly affect how desirable a company is. Ive found in two decades of aviation that generally the larger the company, the more likely it is to lay people off.

Re: Poll: Best Company - Pacific
You guys are both right... I wouldn't say laying off your staff makes you the WORST company. But I don't think you get to be the BEST if you can't provide consistent employment to your staff. Therein lies the problem, and why this polls meaningless, in my opinion. If you got laid off and I kept my job, I might think "Wow, this company is the best. They kicked Meddler to the curb to save my job". But I bet YOU wouldn't think they were the best. Hey, you get to keep your company in business. Congratulations. I thin it's still a stroke against you if you think you're the BEST. How many managers agreed to do without a bonus this year before layoffs were contemplated? How many discussed taking a pay cut? How many of the managers' buddies managed to keep their jobs?

Pretty hard to make an objective assessment unless you have actually worked for all those companies.

I don't see the company I work for there and I am fine with that. Best kept secret.
