Northwest Ranger(Lockheed 60/Aermacchi AL-60) What happened?

Post by xchox »

Just wondering if anyone knows the history behind the little known Canadian aircraft "Northwest Ranger"?

Apparently started life as the Lockheed 60 which then became the Aermacchi AL-60 before the rights were bought by Northwest Industries in 1968. According to Wiki only 4 were made.

So why was there only 4 made? And are any still around?

There's one in pieces in Alma, Quebec but I have no idea if it's a Ranger or AL-60 as it wasn't on gear. If I knew there was a rare Canadian version I would have been more excited and paid more attention.

See Larry Milberry's latest book, the CAE Story. Why would it be in there? Because CAE purchased Northwest Industries.
