$25 k to fly the Mars
It's good to see Coulson isn't giving up on these things yet, I guess why not try to make a few bucks any way you can. Can't imagine there's too many pilots with an extra $25,000 US lying around though.

Re: $25 k to fly the Mars
$25k for 1.0 in a plane that rare is actually not a bad deal. For comparison, here are some other 'bucket list' flight costs:
0.7-0.8 in a MiG 29 in Russia - $23,850
0.9 in a Spitfire in England - $8300. (keeping in mind the GBP shit the bed this morning)

As cool as the Mars is, it's Mig over the Mars hands down any day of the week. When I was in Orlando last, it was $3200/hr to fly Crazy Horse. Let the Mustang versus Spitfire mudslinging begin.

I'd love to get my greasy mitts on that throttle quadrant!
10,000hp
218L of displacement
72 Cylinders
Plus flying boats trump all other aircraft.

4 pilots for two flights total. So each pilot gets...either a takeoff or a landing, not both(or so it appears). Thanks, but I want to be significantly on my way toward my endorsement for 25K.
How about 5 days ground school for those interested to really learn the aircraft.

Would they go for a splash and go in Victoria harbour?
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

You should go for the PIC B-17 type rating that EAA offers.pelmet wrote:4 pilots for two flights total. So each pilot gets...either a takeoff or a landing, not both(or so it appears). Thanks, but I want to be significantly on my way toward my endorsement for 25K.

Re: $25 k to fly the Mars
There are lots of very rich pilots (John Travolta) who will pay the fee out of daily pocket money and be glad to.
Re: $25 k to fly the Mars
That's not what I read... "1 hour flight each" with 2:20 blocked in each time slot for 2 pilots... everyone must be on board all day too so you get a decent burn around throughout the day as a passenger on top of your flying leg...pelmet wrote:4 pilots for two flights total. A mig would be alright but everyone has one of those... a Mars is unique.

TOTALLY misread the title as "$25 k to fly to Mars"... and wondered how much to fly back.
I'm going to knock this up a notch with my spice weasle. Bam!

Re: $25 k to fly the Mars
In the good ol days when Forest Industries Flying Tankers took over the show from Macmillan Bloedel the right seat on the beasts did not require a pilot licence, only a certified captain and flight engineer.I was working as a maintenance contractor for FIFT and Management asked Me if I wanted fly in the right seat on the mars. WTF I thought, are they serious
So with a millisecond of thought I said Yes and started the training process No licence required for the FO position
My training was overwhelming but I got thru it, and my job was airspeed, altimeter , operating flaps, running the coms, keeping a watch for snags and taking the controls when the skipper requested. The intercom on the flight deck is a challenge and response technique that is used in naval operations and i suppose that is why they were able to fly with one pilot and a FE certified
This operation was definitely the highlight of my maintenance career and i made way more than 25 grand flying and maintaining LYK LYL for FIFT

Re: $25 k to fly the Mars
If I can do my 5 TO/LD, 6 hours on water on a 172 before I go, and get my float rating signed off after the hour, I'm in. Now, to find that extra 25 thousand...
If at first you don't succeed, maybe NDB approaches just aren't for you
