Hawaii Mars for sale. Any takers?

For 3 million you can have an obsolete aircraft with obsolete engines operating in a painfully small market. Any takers?
No doubt it's a great airplane with an excellent back story and history but it's time for static display in a museum or special rides offered to aviation buffs at one of those museums that keeps their aircraft airworthy.

I agree- most likely buyer will be someone who wants her for her unique historical value, unless of course Buffalo Joe sees a business case with adding more pistons to his fleet.
As far as the price, it is an untested market and the Coulson's are shrewd business people. $3 million doesn't sound like an unreasonable asking price (although it is beyond my budget). That's less than a house in Vancouver (but perhaps with more space inside).

It would make a great floating house. A water version of this http://www.theplaidzebra.com/this-portl ... fic-woods/
I've always liked the idea of living in a 727. I just think it should be pedestal mounted so it can weather vane with the wind. And with a railing, those wings would make a great deck. A floating version could swing around its anchor and would be even better for when the zombie apocalypse hits. Also, less issues dumping the lav tank.

Funny...Buffalo has a couple of thier CL215's for sale for 3 Mil apiece. I know which one I'd rather have!
Re: Hawaii Mars for sale. Any takers?
I actually lived in one for a couple of weeks when I was 17. There were three or four of them parked at Victoria airport in 1965 and I was working as a galloping boy and groom at Sandown racetrack in Victoria. The stable I worked for moved over to Vancouver and I didn't have a ride back to Alberta for a couple of weeks, so I had a sleeping bag from a tack room than I took over there, and climbed through this big hole at the wing root and made a space behind the spar and slept there. No cooking though.Gannet167 wrote:It would make a great floating house. A water version of this http://www.theplaidzebra.com/this-portl ... fic-woods/

I didn't have to, but I chose to. Huge machines.

I heard a rumour that Kermit Weeks had bought it. He flew it to Oshkosh.
Re: Hawaii Mars for sale. Any takers?
He did get checked out in it and flew it to OSH. Not sure if he bought it.

I read that he paid the fuel bill for the trip to Oshkosh in return for the chance to fly it there.

To new owners!
if you need somebody to keep her going with no parts

if you need some bobby to pull a prop on the water
if you need somebody to fix all the snags that were induced
if you need to keep the pilot from killing the entire crew
You need a engineer! you got one

That condition might have been in the ad, but I doubt it made it into the final sales contract. It would severely limit the value of the aircraft to any future buyer.SeptRepair wrote:I wonder if the condition of sale when they were purchased is still in effect? -

6 km's of lake to pick up 2 km's of water seems like a lot to me.

Sounded pretty awesome taking off over head the sea plane base there!

I spoke with Kermit last Sunday and while he would love to own it , he just simply does not have anywhereskymarc wrote:He did get checked out in it and flew it to OSH. Not sure if he bought it.

to house the aircraft.
His lake at Fantasy of Flight is large enough to operate it from but he feels that it really needs to
be kept inside and that is the problem.
...isn't he the best pilot you've ever seen?....Yeah he is ....except when I'm shaving.........

Obsolete engines? Erickson is operating aircraft with very similar engines and they were still able to get contracts. Spare parts have never been an issue for the Mars.
