Re: Winter Bid released today.
Will we potentially see some new hires (say within the last 6 months) bid onto new aircraft with this bid? Newer CRJ FO's being bumped to other aircraft?
Where will all the RJ Captains go from YYZ if YYC and YVR Q and -8 Captains with much higher seniority bid onto the RJ? The lowest RJ Captain in YYZ is in the 600's and there are many -8 and Q Captains who are in YVR or YYC (But commuting) that have a much higher number than that.
I'm curious to see what it all looks like when the dust settles.

By "higher" I mean on the list... lower number overall.

Have interviews slowed down at all during the period of this new bid coming out or has it still been full steam ahead?

Re: Winter Bid released today.
From what I've heard from a buddy who was just in Initial GS and from people I know who got the call.....sounds like 1-2 GS/mth until the year ends.
Re: Winter Bid released today.
Most spots will likely be in YVR but we won't know till the results are out. Won't likely be any YYZ openings for a while.

Re: Winter Bid released today.
There is currently a GS underway. The plan as I was told was 2 in sept and then 1 a month onward from there. Most spots will be YVR/YUL

Any recent revelations? When does the finalized roster come out?

Nothing yet. The award should be out by the 13th at the latest I believe.Saxub wrote:Any recent revelations? When does the finalized roster come out?
As for revelations, there are some rumours floating around, but I don't put any stock in them until I hear something official. So far everything I've heard has had no evidence to support it.

Any word on if this will continue into the new year?Rowdy wrote:There is currently a GS underway. The plan as I was told was 2 in sept and then 1 a month onward from there. Most spots will be YVR/YUL
Re: Winter Bid released today.
Bid is out. Just by my quick math there are 70-75 vacancies in YVR on all types.
About 17 in YYC
About 15 in YYZ. All Dash Classic
About 28 openings in YUL. Mainly Q

Most Jr. raj captain is around 2 years and YVR based.
RJ captains with less than 3 years in both YYC and YVR
RJ captains with less than 3 years in both YYC and YVR

Finding 130+ pilots over the next 8-9 months will not be easy. Lots of other tier II carriers looking for pilots as well.

Perhaps that's a good thing. Maybe the pay will have to increase to attract some of the more experienced folks. Although I suspect, the hiring minimums will just be lowered.
The training department is sure going to be busy though. Between the 130 projected vacancies, and the 200 training events this bid has created there will be plenty of overtime I am sure.

With the FPMA rumoured to be announced early october.. it could become quite interesting. AC still in need of a +300 pilots at present. Not to mention any early retirements (forecasting is based on everyone going to 65) Plus the fleet plans and additional airframes. How many of those hired after jan 2015 will stay at Jazz? Speaking with many of my peers here, most had planned to go to main line as soon as they could. Same goes with GGN and SKR.skypirate88 wrote:rudder wrote:Finding 130+ pilots over the next 8-9 months will not be easy. Lots of other tier II carriers looking for pilots as well.

Training department will be flat out.. as will HR. I believe we are already at the lowest point for experience levels with new hires. Any lower and the costs go up with failures and additional training to meet the standards here. It was mentioned to me that the success rate on the RJ is proportionate to the experience level.
There will need to be some incentives or contract changes to attract qualified people to continue this growth plan. Why leave your cushy 1900/king air or corp jet spot for a pay cut and 2 years at Jazz and then another 4 years at AC before your pay returns.
Only time will tell

Taking that initial pay cut, that's upwards of 50%, really hurts when it will take 6 of your remaining 35 years of your career to recover from. That's a pay cut for 17% of your remaining career.
Also really sucks when you just finished setting up your house in Toronto, then to find out you are moving to Montreal or Vancouver.
