the Wells????????

Post by the original tony »

:o
i had the "pleasure" of running into the Wells and i wish i had hit it harder.
a good bunch of guys that fly there, low timers getting a lot of experience. and just good overall guys.
then there is management, editted by Moderator, if that is the right spelling, frankly i don't give a F&^K it is or not. meeting them, try to be drunk, it makes the medicine go down easier.
that is one company that hopefully gets shut down before someone is really hurt. when a transport audit comes up, planes are nowhere to be found, maybe at some gravel strips that no citation 2 could get into.
then back at night to be taped together again.
the most crooked of outfits in the north, just ask them what their turn over has been, and how many that moved on, actually left for jobs. most just quit.
i hate to see guys out of work, as i am myself, hopefully not for long.........
but this is one spot that is NOT worth going to fly for regardless of how badly you need a job, IMHO being a statistic isn't worth the 5hrs on a twin otter dangling carrot

Lets get a few things straight here.

The gravel strips that our planes are at during the day are WHERE WE OPERATE TO and the planes are there during the day because THEY ARE BUSY FLYING. We can't work 24 hours a day thats why they are parked at night.

If you can find any tape anywhere on one of our airplanes you're doing better than I am bacause I've only flown all of them an I can't find any. And as I recall Transport didn't find any during our recent audit, which went rather well.

As far as carrots, there are about 4 guys that came here right out of school and have twin otter PPC's standing behind me. And a few with 99 ppc's just for good measure.

Ramp wait is about 6 months here after which you will get flying as long as you are not a complete and total jackass.

Northwright is a good place to start out. You get to fly well maintained airplanes, build a fair bit of time quickly and have good PPC's if you decide to look elsewhere.

None of our guys have left since last year so what turnover exactly are you refering to.

Winters are cold, the work isn't always fun but there are much worse places to end up, like out of work wich from your attitude I'd say is much deserved.

The Pilots of Northwright

Well Tony,

Glad to see you have an opinion. Shows yer thinking. About an inch deep.

I, unlike the previous posters, do not work for NWA. Never have. In fact, I rather suspect that the managent team of NWA doesn't particularly like me, due to my habit of poaching their pilots. Since I do not own a tie, it is unlikely that I will be offered a postion with them.

Having said that, were I to be starting out again, I would have started bugging them for a job from the outset. Here's why:
 • Their predecessors were not big on training. The dozen pilots we've stolen adapted to our SOPs quickly, and required no additional skills training when they came over.
 • Likewise, the cosmetics of their predecessor's aircraft left something to be desired. Like cosmetics. All of the NWA machines that I have closely examined (read: all of them! ) are clean.
 • Area pilots have historically been a bit casual in appearance. This has lent itself to a number of amusing situations, like when the RCMP, at the conclusion of a prisoner transport, was uncertain who the detainees and who the drivers were. The NWA crew is, as a rule, the better groomed crowd at most airports.
 • Drivers that I paid scant attention to when they first arrived are now driving bigger and better airplanes than when they first arrived.
 • The lack of an ATPL to fly as captain has meant that several of the drivers are captains of aircraft that our drivers don't see the left seat of for a year or so longer than NWA.
You clearly have issues with NWA. Sorry. But a well-mannered, trained crew, with clean and fairly decent equipment is nothing to snivel about. In other older forums, airlines whine about the others "lowering the bar". As far as I can see from the outside, they are helping to raise it.

KBA aka Akalak Air flies many twin turbines to 6 communities on sched flights, has a medivac contract with Air Tindi, and does charter work.
NWA has C206 and 207’s and one light twin turbine, flies to 2 communities on scheds and does charter work.

Fuel prices are higher than any where else on earth, or at least any where else I have seen.

Who cares about the pipeline, we are going to keep the gas for ourselves,
have you seen the price of the stuff!

Well Old, as you may have noticed threads take on a life of their own here. There is still some foot-dragging and posturing of political groups up here, so progress is slow on the development front.

For those of us flying here, both the shirt and tie, and non-shirt&Tie crowd, this is likely a good thing. On the Red and Black side of things, with 4 extra machines, we still cannot keep up with the work we had. On the Shirt & Tie side of things, the 99 (the SUV of Beech turbines!) guys, like me, are timexing regularly.

As for the price of Jet, it's passed on, and not payroll deducted. Our customers are keen to get to where they are going, and at present could care less. Our winter passengers want to get jet fuel out of the ground, so every nickel increase spurs them to greater efforts.

As far as the mood in town? I get home toss a steak on the barbie, watch 10 minutes of TV, and I'm asleep. Ask a non-pilot how the town mood is. In the summer, pilot aren't there (and awake) long enough to know.

i do apologize if i insulted ANY line pilots that read my thread, it had nothing to do with them as my previous post read. check it out if you like.
what else can i say, i guess they are all right, they have never had anyone quit except complete jac#$$s. and it is the best spot to work. it may have been another company in the metropolis of the wells.
as far as living, i was there 5 years. beautiful summers and frigid winters.
the northern lights are worth the trip. good luck and take care

Is it true that Northwright requires pilots to have gone through a college aviation program? Not sure if the rumor was true.

Cheers!
