Flight Dispatcher Exams

Post by Eagle905 »

Hi All,
I would like to ask about the Transport Canada Flight Dispatcher Tests (FDOPS & FDMET).

What is a good source for self-studying?
I have found these two options:
First >> http://www.pilottraining.ca - it's an online course for $400.
Second >> 'Flight Dispatcher Generic Training Course' for $500 with a practice test book by Michael Cul hane.
Anyone has used any of them, are they good preparation for the TC exams?

I tried the TC website but it is not that easy to study from or contains straightforward information.
Is using FAA question bank would help to practice? or the regulations are way different than the CARs?
I appreciate any guidance or help to set me on the right track to start preparing for the test.

Thanks,

Can not say much about the above website, however I would STRONGLY advise against using the FAA question bank as things are not that different but enough to TOTALLY mess you up!

FD MET= find & read the air command weather manual, then understand & use all NavCanada's weather website.
FD OPS= Start by reading from the ground up, then read the AIM, Buy yourself a CFS, a CAP Gen & CAP, some HI/LO/VNC maps and try to understand all of it.

Then give the exams a try. That'll tell you what you should study next.

I would not use FAA questions.

Thank you! from the Ground up is a new book for me, I will check that out right now. The only book I was able to find earlier was Michael .'s. I appreciate your input.

FDMET & FDOPS used to be free to write and then you had to wait, perhaps a month (or two?) between attempts.
If they ARE still free, go and write 'em. Then you'll see what you need to know.

I have been out of the aviation industry for a while and would like to refresh or study everything before I give it a try.
