Ban Pyramid Schemes from the Workplace
Seriously,
I don't give a s*** about your f***ing Amway, World Financial Group, Landmark Leadership, Blah blah blah.
I'm not going to buy your over-priced shampoo, I'm not going to join your new-age "leadership" cult, I'm not going to mortgage my f***ing house through you, I'm not going to meet with your 'friend' and discuss an 'exciting opportunity!', and I'm certainly not going to "start my own business" through you.
From flight-decks to hangars to offices - I'm feeling barraged by this.
Oh, and for all those mind-f***'ed people involved in such schemes - Stop telling people "I'm a business owner!". You're not. You have no assets (besides whatever shit product you have stuffed in the back of your 96 LeSabre), you have no work, you have no cash-flow. You're being scammed. You're a pilot/ame/FA/dispatcher/whatever - not a 'Financial Services Expert'.
Companies should really make policies to keep this shit out.
You think someone is being pleasant and friendly and BHAM! Nope - just wants to sell you f***ing dish-cloths.

Re: Ban Pyramid Schemes from the Workplace
There was a period when I was barraged by this. Maybe it was an age thing or my financial situation that made me seem like an easy target.
Just so you young guys know, 25 years later, those selling X are still selling or have gotten out because it never panned out as promised. No one retired early on their own island in the Caribbean. And they've lost a lot of friends because of it.

Yeah, me too. There was a real eruption of this stuff about 25 years ago, when I was in college. The last straw, for me, came when I was approached by my ACCOUNTING prof. You can imagine, I was speechless. Luckily, even then I couldn't escape the feeling that I was being hoodwinked, and I never fell for it.
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

Re: Ban Pyramid Schemes from the Workplace
Oh yeah. It seems like all of the moms get together and decide how to divide the wealth of the neighbourhood selling x crap product for y dollars, and woe to the parent who upsets the balance or invades someone else's 'turf'. Look, I have kids, you have kids, let's just spend our money on our respective kid's activities and stop the shameless profiteering by the tea and chocolate companies. Except Girl Guide cookies, the white and chocolate ones (not the mint ones). They could double the price and I'd still buy half a dozen boxes.
But you do notice a pattern with these other so called entrepreneurs. Rarely do they ever have anything to show for their product or the success from selling them. They are selling health products while being morbidly obese with medical issues. They are selling financial services or 'get rich quick' schemes while avoiding collection agencies.
Typically with MLM or other Ponzi scheme, you need to be at least two tiers up from the bottom to win. Everyone below loses, spending more money on products or whatnot than they bring in, and the only hope to get on the winning side and get your free car is to recruit enough people so you have two tiers underneath you.
My wife did Mary Kay. I told her not to, but it was a way for her to socialize and do something other than sit at home. I gave her $2000 out of the money I had saved up before we got married, and I said that if it is really as good as you say, we'll make this back and then some. Otherwise, you'll have to get a job to finance your other job. She never made it back, and we still have a lifetime supply of unsold expired Mary Kay products.

Re: Ban Pyramid Schemes from the Workplace
I was invited to attend a sort of pyramid scheme style sales demonstration once in the early 1980's. It was a sales demonstration for an oil additive. The pitch man claimed he had just invented a testing device that would allow sales people to demonstrate the effectiveness of this oil additive.
I opened my big mouth and blurted out I had seen the very same demonstration done in the exact same way at a fair 25 years before. It was sort of a foopoo on my part.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Re: Ban Pyramid Schemes from the Workplace
I had a co worker do a tripod whiteboard pitch on RSP loans from his guy, I left halfway through, but RSP loans can be a great way to force yourself to save and the tax benefit can be great. I've used them twice since then so the pitch wasn't all bad...

Seems to be quite prevalent in Calgary ... I do giggle when such post's show up in my social media feeds. For some 300 extra a month makes them some kind of business Tycoon.plhought wrote:Seriously,

Please don't be racist towards the mint chocolate girl guide cookies, they have done nothing to deserve this type of shaming! They only want to promote peace and happiness within households, cockpits and control towers.
Re: Ban Pyramid Schemes from the Workplace
Nope. It's time to take action against the establishmint. Make America white (and chocolate with NO mint) again.
