I've had a brisket on since 0900 this morning. Currently at an internal temperature of 175.

Not long now!!!

Looking forward to it tonight.

Happy Thanksgiving to y'all south of the border.

I have a certain admiration for people who exercise the freedom to display their naked ignorance publicly, without shame.

Good for you!

Oh come on Complex. I can easily imagine 350 years ago native Americans saying exactly the same thing Trump is saying, including deporting all the illegal aliens and building a wall along the Atlantic coast. Of course back then they didn't call themselves native Americans.

Where's your sense of history?

Ohhhhh the smugness...

I'm sure jealous that Canada was so civilly tamed...

Growing up, I remember that Monday in October being full of turkey, then carted off to the rink to burn off that excess gravy. What exactly were we giving thanks too?

Nothing smug about it Nark, our history on that front is no better than yours. We haven't as yet though elected a Donald Trump and white nationalists do not set our agenda. That's nothing to be smug about either - just thankful. That's what I'll be giving thanks for next October.

Edit: We do have someone up here trying to channel Trump's racist energies into the CPC leadership, and if she's successful I promise to be as critical of her as I am of Trump. For now though I think people are just trying not to make the same mistake Americans did and deny her a free media platform.

G'day Rockie and Av8ts

Why do both of you feel the need to turn this into something political? It was simple gesture to my American friends who I served with and those of whom are part of the AvCan community.

By the way, I'd like to compliment you both on your amazing flying skills. Not too many out there can fly a plane with two left wings!

Cheers...Chris

I saw the humour in Av8ts post, unfortunately others didn't. I thought your "two left wings" joke was funny as well and will have to use the right wing version of it sometime.

Sorry for ruining the sentiment...

Fortunately, it appears that America has learned from its history and has decided not to repeat it starting in January.

I think you mean Canada learned from our history. The USA is in danger of repeating past mistakes.

We should resurrect this thread a year from now to see what America, or the rest of the world for that matter has to be thankful for. I'm thinking not much as a fact free, ethics free, moral free and shame free President unencumbered by intelligence lays waste to the world as we know it.

Set aside for a second that the original sentiment was simply an innocent, friendly greeting to a neighbour, and some tool decided to shit all over it. Whatever. This is the internet, after all. The bar to entry is very low.

But the ignorance I was referring to was the somewhat sad, pathetic attempt to go all SJW and try and define what Thanksgiving is by implying it's about glorifying violent colonialism. It may very well mean that to some - as I have said before, when you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Too bad that's not what any credible historian recognizes as the original motivation for the holiday. Although now it may be more about football and fights between crazed consumers in shopping malls, it was originally simply a shared feast of celebration of harvest that was attended by both the Pilgrims, sorry, Imperialist Overlord Invaders, and members of the indigenous population. Hint: the clue is hidden in the name of the holiday. It's not called "Oppress The Victims, Of Whom Everyone Except White Males, Is One" Day. That would be too long to go on a Hallmark card, anyway.

Here's hoping some of our more left-leaning brethren can find a way to stop hating themselves so much and move on with their lives. Or at the least, leave those in peace who wish to pass along a simple greeting and stop inserting their incoherent, factually-challenged agenda everywhere.

Oh and if my comment offends anyone, it's just funny and satirical.

it was you who turned a funny joke into yet another political shatshow
Uh noooo...I think that happened about....here:

If that's your idea of a funny joke, uhhh...agree to disagree?

I feel pity that you can only equate Thanksgiving with racism. (I'm kinda tired of having to reuse "sad" and "pathetic" as adjectives).

Let me guess - no turkey in your household, to protest against oppression?

Unfortunately, the left, which embraces the ideology of hiring based on race, university entrance requirements based on race, etc continue to endlessly use the racist term for people out there that challenge their ideas. The poster above mentioned something that I said in a PM so I will elaborate more on that discussion. He is like so many on that side of the spectrum who do the same and sent me a PM out of the blue equating concerns about a religion as racism. How can people be so unaware. A person of any race can be follow any of the major religions. But that is what these people do and I suggest that you keep doing this as it it now starting to result in you losing political power.

Now, I see that the Labour party(sort of equivalent of Liberals/Democrats) in the UK is under threat from the UKIP party(the ones that were in the European parliament wanting independence) that is entering the system to replace their identity politics.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2016 ... ur-sights/

Meanwhile the Labour party in the UK that voted for a hard left leader is like our wonderful PM, lionizing Fidel Castro as their almost hero. Remember just a few days ago we had a well known anti-Trump poster on this forum staing about the threat of nuclear war with Trump in power yet it was Trudeau's good friend Fidel who encouraged Kruschev to start the war during the Cuban missile crisis. But hey, these are just minor details of history.

i predict a time not far from now when even you guys will have no choice but to recognize Trump as the unhinged, intellectually challenged con man he is. It'll be interesting to hear how you blame him on the left.

Dude,
If the aboriginals had had a Donald Trump to lead them 350 years ago then their descendants would not be in the situation in which they currently find themselves. Learn from the mistakes of others .....

We do recognize him as that. He is still more palatable than Hillary.

Why? Because he's smarter? More honest? More experienced? Has a better moral compass? Will actually make a better President?

I'm curious. It can't be the email thing because Trump greatly admires this guy, and is seriously considering him for - ironically - Clinton's old job as SecState.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Petraeus

It couldn't be Clinton's suspected conflict of interests because Trump has already exceeded 200 years worth and he's only a few weeks into his transition. Hasn't even hit office yet.

So how exactly is he more palatable?
