Re: Buffalo Ad
I love the vibe of their ad is that there's still a glut of pilots out there begging for a job in the armpit of Canada.
Newsflash- you're going to have to try harder than that. It's a buyers market so to speak.

Funny what perspective can do. I've lived in Southern Canada, but my life is in Yellowknife now. I'm home every night, make good money, don't contend with traffic, regularly grab a coffee (or root beer!) with my buddies, and coach both my boys' hockey teams. Yes- that's also available in Southern Canada...but sometimes is tough to find in aviation.begging for a job in the armpit of Canada.

Re: Buffalo Ad
Some of my best days in aviation were when I flew out of Yellowknife, it is hardly the armpit of Canada...now Toronto that might be getting closer to the armpit.
And another thought just crossed my mind, flying the DC3 was another highlight of my career, it is arguably the best aircraft ever made.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Re: Buffalo Ad
Locational slagging aside... point being it's a pretty odd set of requirements. I don't know too many low timers that have time on a fricken Electra.
Re: Buffalo Ad
Does MS Flight Sim have an Electra?
Just a thought.

I found their captain ad even more strange. It says IATRA required, but I'm quite certain an ATPL is a regulatory requirement for 705 captain.

I'm sure they will need them shortly like EVAS and a few other companies in Canada. The big boys are not excluded in that comment.

Where do you get that they want a low-timer? All I see is minimum of 1500H..DanWEC wrote: What am I missing here?? Entry level Electra F/O wanted, Low time, IATRA, oh- and time on type!!
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Or to put it more eloquently in the words of Ricky; one man's garbage is another man person's good ungarbage.
One man's trash is another man's treasure I suppose.

Re: Buffalo Ad
First, I loved my time in the Knife, look back at with great fondness. I was there for eight years and made life long friends, many still live there. That being said, Buffalo's advert tells me two things, pilot's don't have to go north anymore and work the ramp for the carrot. Two, where in Canada are you going to find DC3, C46, or L188 qualified pilots, let alone get them up to YZF to freeze their buts off loading the planes.
Jazz, Skyregional, Georgian, you name it, they are all hiring pilots. I'm not talking 5000 hour astronaut types, I'm talking 2000 hour ATPL ink barely dry on their licenses types. We hired a young man this spring who didn't have the time in for his ATPL, two years out of college. We are putting people straight on to the B767 mainline First Officer position, and retirements haven't kicked in. It's the perfect storm, growth, retirements, in about two years, if you have a pulse, no obvious mental issues, you're in.
The Buffalo Airways of the world are starting to feel the effects of the world wide demand for qualified pilots, not to even mention what's going to happen stateside. I don't know what the answer is, but freezing your ass on the ramp for Joe isn't it, maybe back in the day, not now!
Bid 17-01. 312 pilots short, those numbers are only going to get worse going forward, not to mention the Chinese, Vietnamese, scooping qualified pilots wherever they can. I can see in the not to distant future smaller operators closing there doors because of lack of staff.

Re: Buffalo Ad
There's Baslers flying around Ontario, and I'd imagine quite a few older guys have DC-3 time. How many of them want to fly their ass off up there is a good question. I'd imagine most people with DC-3 time are looking to retire.
Probably lots of Electra pilots around as Canadian Airlines flew them in the 80s. But again, most of the those guys are probably looking to retire.
Both Buffalo ads reek of being written by HR. They were definitely written by somebody without regulatory knowledge or industry hiring norms.

Re: Buffalo Ad
Finally, the last comment gets it, those ads have HR written all over them.
and I agree with the guys saying that Yellowknife is no armpit, its a hairy ear maybe but not a bad place at all.

Re: Buffalo Ad
Possible. They can go to Immigration Canada and say no one in Canada meets their requirement and justify a work visa sponsorship.'97 Tercel wrote:Looking for foreign workers...
