I am not a supporter of this program as it ruins some people's lives on frivolous grounds incompatible with our values and traditions, however, this isn't one of those cases.

It's the only one I've ever agreed with.

I think we would have noticed him if he was here.

He obviously has some issues that need to be dealt with.

Based solely upon what I read in the linked article, it does not sound like that's a pilot I'd be happy to fly with anyway... Thanks security agency and court.

On what grounds can a pilot here in Canada lose their RAIC pass?

TC can take it away because they have a report you picked your nose the wrong way. The mandate is clear to protect aviation and I agree with that however this is one of the few cases in the pilot world I would agree with them. They use information that I would question the legality of from reading these cases and clearly a few judges have felt that way. I don't understand the RAIC program when it comes to pilots.... pilots from other countries don't have them and TC does not know their history but would want a document from police if you were out of country for 90 days plus. You also don't lose your licence nor do you get put on the no fly list. If the guy is serious unless they take it all away he still has the right to access restricted areas to get to his airplane or the airplane he is assigned. If he commutes he will still be in the restricted areas but he will go thru security and of security is all it takes to go thru why the raic? Pilot don't really work at the airport they just pass through like any any business traveler going on a day trip to say New York.

Not quite true. Pilots need to access the ramp to do a walk around

Obtaining and maintaining a RAIC is usually a condition of employment.

Your Aviation Security course will outline the procedure if you see "airport staff" of some sort on your airplane without a RAIC.

pilots from other countries access the ramp without RAICs and TC has no control over what standards they use. Ie in the USA a DUI is not as serious as in Canada. We also access ramps in other countries. There is also a section to allow pilots access to their planes in restricted areas, I was not talking about other airport staff. I don't view pilots as airport staff.

My point being this guy can still do dumb stuff if he wants too. He should lose his licence for putting that kind of stuff on paper. Think how you want but if you make it public take responsibility for your actions.

The best post I have ever seen about the irrationality of this bullshit RAIC for pilots. If you are a threat to aviation safety, you shouldn't have a pilot's license. Duh? If you have a pilot's license, then you aren't a threat to aviation safety. At least in the sense they mean.

Aviation safety refers to ensuring that harm does not come to aircraft and passengers and to the safe and orderly operation of airports. Pilot licensing deals with those aspects insofar as it relates to pilots.

Denial of a RAIC pass does not mean you can't work as a pilot. It only means you require an escort in restricted areas.

There is clearly nothing in the existing procedure for getting a pilot licence in Canada that takes into account whether you might be or become a deliberate threat to aviation safety.

Which part do you think should be altered to meet this lofty goal?

What if a pilot committed an offence that involved TC or any other federal regulated law , is that grounds for losing a RAIC?

Many companies required the "Ability to obtain a TC RAIC". This would disqualify an individual from which the RAIC was removed. Also, I am unsure how many companies would be willing to have a chaperone with a pilot when on the restricted side because of some criminal behaviour...

Yes, theoratically you could still work as a pilot. Practically? It wouldn't be that easy.

No part. It's not a lofty goal. It's not a goal at all. People are not a threat until some independent authority says they are.

It's not a chaperone. There are very few instances where a pilot would need an escort, as pilots generally only go where the passengers go. Walkaround?

I used to fly into Sudbury and stay overnight in a Baron. I could land, park on the ramp 100 feet away from AC aircraft, get my stuff and pax stuff out of the airplane, spend as long as I wanted out there, then just walk in through that FBO and leave. When I came back, there was security because I was going into a restricted area. The same one we could have tented in the night before.
