Yes thanks Cat for the bad spelling. Little blurry eyed after a long shift. I needed a nap.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

G'day
“2017 marks the 150th anniversary of Canada and the 80th birthday of Air Canada, our nation’s flag carrier.”
Trans Canada Airlines was renamed Air Canada on January 1965. By my math, Air Canada has only been around for 52 years, not 80.
Cheers...Chris

Re: Air Canada's New Livery
Considering it cost nearly $220k to re-paint a Challenger 604 with two coloured stripes, a little canadian flag on the tail and two logos on the winglets... Methinks the cost savings are a bit exaggerated.
Overall, I'm kind of disappointed with the new livery. The tail they've got on Rouge birds looks better.
I mean it doesn't look bad but it's hardly screaming "CANADA!!!". A big ol' "meh" from me.

Yes,
To me it looks a lot like a combo of Delta and going back to the previous livery with memories of the Milton glory days. Regarding "paint it black," I got the Rolling Stones song jingling in my head right now. Perhaps it is a statement about more than just what they let on to?
I would like to see the old Red and White with the cheatlines. Yeah, I know cheatlines are out, but fhe colors looked so good and were synonymous with Canada'/ flag carrier.

I LIKE IT: Looks sharp and a nice change from toothpaste green. This year marks "80 years" as the National Airline a new paint job and some fresh looking uniforms are a nice change.
Re: Air Canada's New Livery
I like it. Especially the black belly. Though I wonder if they realize black is actually pretty hard to keep looking clean. It's no where near as good as the potential one that delta1 has posted above. Something simple looks best, especially for a flag carrier. I'm surprised to see how many people now like the mint green. It was flamed terribly when it first arrived and IMO hasn't gotten any better with age.
Re: Air Canada's New Livery
Air Canada... now 75% more Racoony than Porter!
On a serious note... It's NOT that bad. Just lose the Racoon stripe.
Slightly off topic... THIS:

Back on topic... The sad thing is... You know someone got paid thousands if not millions to come up with that Livery... While there are kids in there moms basement doing the same thing out of passion or nothing better to do, and some aren't that bad:

*NOTE* Some are png files. Just google the link.

They should also do several retro fleet aircraft. Would be nice imho

Moose47, TransCanada was "renamed" Air Canada, still the same airline. If I change my name tomorrow, am I one day old?
Re: Air Canada's New Livery
In chit chat, maybe I'm one of the few that like it.
I thought it was a blatant rip off of CargoJet mind you,

I do think ANZ is pretty bad ass mind you.

Re: Air Canada's New Livery
Wow. I think this is a great paint scheme. Why the desire to 'add a new colour'? New spring fashion trend? I don't think the new scheme is bad - for a different carrier - but not a good scheme for Air Canada. Not a fan of the black. Similarly, while I think their blue paint scheme looks quite good, I never got why Air Canada would paint their planes blue. Lots you can do with red and white.xchox wrote:
A retro paint scheme for each company that has been absorbed by Air Canada and each livery of Air Canada would be neat. Especially if they scheduled them so that they would move around the country and various liveries would show up at a given airport. Rather than it always being a CP livery plane arriving, today it may be CP, tomorrow TCA, then a current liveried-plane.
Re: Air Canada's New Livery
I like the design overall. I'm not overly love or hate on the black (isn't it going to be hard to keep clean?) but I think the smartest part of the design is the return to displaying their maple leaf/circle logomark (the "rondelle" according to their branding material) in a very bold way. When you are trying to represent yourself as strongly connected to a nationality, it is hard to visually represent yourself without being cliche. While they never got rid of the "rondelle", they should have never made it second fiddle. Good to see a strong element back where it belongs.
Re: Air Canada's New Livery
Anything is better than the current 'toothpaste' blue. I also didn't care for the previous dark green tail.
I'll echo the sentiments.. Paint up the new 73's in retro colours of all the past operations.. Except the goose, that thing was awful!
Put some of the dashes into the retro mix too so I can share in the fun.

Re: Air Canada's New Livery
I saw it in person while taxiing out today at YYZ and have to admit it looked better in person than I expected. That being said, airplane plaint schemes overall aren't exactly wild & crazy. Not sure you can really blow anyone away with a commercial airliner's paint scheme.

Re: Air Canada's New Livery
Are the ground crews and techs all going to be wearing black out there on the ramp this Summer? Might be a tad warm some days.
Re: Air Canada's New Livery
From my understanding the blue paint job costs twice as much in $$$ AND weight on the A/C. The colour blue costs X $ and weighs Y...the sparkles also cost X and weigh Y. Now your paying 2X and 2Y to have a sparkly paint job than can not be retouched by maintenance when it starts to fall apart. Just doesn't make sense.
Also a little history that I heard from someone on the blue paint job.
It was rolled out in the times where AC was looking to expand into Asia and become a key player...and that this specific shade of blue has some historic/belief/cultural relevance (correct me if I'm wrong).

Re: Air Canada's New Livery
I like it. Although it is similar to Delta it looks good.
...And I like the retro idea. For Jazz?? That would require some 28 different colour schemes to represent all of the companies that have come together now under the Jazz umbrella since the Austin's set up shop in 1934. Would be pretty cool to see a CRJ900 with Austin's bumble bee or black and red schemes.Rowdy wrote:Anything is better than the current 'toothpaste' blue. I initially thought it looked super awkward, especially the roundel underneath the windows, but it's growing on me quite a bit. Check out some of these shots!

Air canada should go back to the iconic view, they had years ago red end with maple leaf rondelle But in White with a red stripe all onward the sidelong(near the windows) and a black nose.
