How old are the jets that are comming online with Zoom? And where are they getting them from? Can't be fresh from the factory passenger jets, as there are no new orders for the 767 since 2004, and the ones that are ordered are cargo jets, outstanding airlines orders, and a pair of military jets. From what I can see, the current Zoom fleet consists of 3 767-300's, two of them 12 years old (ex Air France jets), another leased jet from ILFC, originally delievered to KLM, roughly 10 years old.

How old is an average 767 flying around for any airline? I'd imagine they're of similar age.

Is this just the start of international deep discount flying? AC might be up for a lot more stress with these boys on the block.

Yep... with Harmony Airways firmly entrenched in the Vancouver - Honolulu and Las Vegas route, Zoom to the U.K., and Westjet in Canada and on some U.S. routes, Air Canada is under heavy pressure to make sure their fares are cheap enough, and have good service. It's tough being a full service airline in Canada these days.

Not too familure with Zoom besides knowing their routings and that the fly the big planes with ZOOM painted on the side. I googled them and have done a bit of reading. Just wondering if anyone knows where their main base for pilots are?

Thanks

Zoom crews are based in Ottawa and Monteal. Very nice crews - but they are worked pretty hard lately, things slow down a little in the winter - but no one gets laid off. Rumor right now is the 4th aircraft will be based in Vancouver and they will start basing some crews there as well. Some new crews have been around lately - so I asume they must be hiring.

The aircraft have anywhere between 44000 and 55000 hours with between 8500 and 11000 cycles. Next one is a sister to one they already have - it is aslo ex-KLM. Aircraft are leased from Monarch.

Seems to be some consistency issues due to small size + constraints.
Lots of good reads here::

I've always had the impression that it's one of those places that's tough to get into unless you've fot a friend(s) on the inside.

Hence the importance of having as many genuine friends as you can and not burning any bridges!
