Re: Dreamliner Down in India
If we can get off this weather derailment....
I'm wondering when the first preliminary statement will be made. India has had the boxes for 11 days now. Occasionally there's some voice recorder details available by now.
To me, it's alluding to an expectedly complex situation.

ICAO says to issue a preliminary statement after 30 days.DanWEC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 1:02 pm If we can get off this weather derailment....

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
I believe ICAO mandates having a preliminary report released within 30 days, not after.
Many accidents have been within days, whether official or leaked. Lion Air, Germanwings, Air France, etc etc.

Yes, sorry that was confusing. That's what I meant, you're right.

India says they won't be sending the black boxes to the US.

I thought they hadn't decided yet, though this is almost a week ago
https://www.reuters.com/world/india/ind ... 025-06-19/The government statement did not explicitly rule out the possibility of the flight recorders being sent to the United States.
Re: Dreamliner Down in India
The Indian government is extremely corrupt, they will try to spin this as boeings fault.
Re: Dreamliner Down in India
And how exactly is the Indian government to blame for this? We don't even know the cause. But you know who to blame?

They are not to blame for this. But protecting Air India is most likely their priority.

Not uncommon…. Egypt Air 990 in 1999 is a good example.

And we also know Boeing is beyond reproach without any history of trying to cover anything up.

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
It would be prudent for these black boxes to be investigated in a neutral territory and not India or the US. India most likely will not want to find fault with their National airline and the US likewise with Boeing. I find it somewhat strange that not too much is forthcoming in the way of reasons or a potential cause at this stage and in no way am I suggesting that a full report is needed. If this is a fault with the aircraft why are they still flying???
If Pilot error is suspected then of course that is a different matter.

It's not exactly common, one example doesn't make it 'common'. There have been other examples of similar incidents with no attempts as implied, good example would be Germanwings 9525.Old fella wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 4:33 ammantogasrsrwy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 7:01 pmThey are not to blame for this. Survivorship Bias. You only hear about the cover-ups that get exposed.
Re: Dreamliner Down in India
The Ethiopian government is famous for this with a loss of control in instrument flight conditions near Beirut blamed on a missile along with the 737 Max crash. The NTSB criticized their investigative agency for basically lying in the reports to shift some blame to other parties.goldeneagle wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 9:42 amIt's not exactly common, one example doesn't make it 'common'. Representatives from the NTSB and AAIB are with the recorders and are participating in the data retrieval.shamrock104 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 26, 2025 9:34 am It would be prudent for these black boxes to be investigated in a neutral territory and not India or the US. Imagine this happened in Canada and the world had to wait 2 years for our TSB investigation.

The truck carrying the tail section drove under a large tree branch and smashed into it with the tail.

This is an extremely high profile crash.
I'm pretty confident we will get the truth.

Re: Dreamliner Down in India
I suspect you are very much correct in that “ high profile crash” is an understatement. Latest generation commercial airliner(B787-8) departed and simply pancaked in, the videos circulating would certainly suggest a huge WTF happened. If it’s a human factors investigation going forward, it will get very interesting. Time will tell I guess.Eric Janson wrote: ↑Fri Jun 27, 2025 5:35 amThis is an extremely high profile crash.

However in this case there are far too many parties involved (I'll bet they're watching each other very closely). If anything happens you can bet there will be people speaking out.

I lived in this region for 8 years. The level of Chaos/Corruption/Negligence/Incompetence/Nepotism/Theft and Fraud would shock you.
I've said it before - the only thing that surprises me is that they don't have more accidents!
