Re: AME shortage?

Post by Pat Richard »

I don't think welders do what they do because they love being out on a pipeline for 10-12 hrs doing very high concentration work all day because they love it, sure some might, but it's all about the money for them usually, and rightly so
You're right, and this also applies to more than few AME's doing graveyards in the arctic,etc... except for... well, the pay...

As for the rest of your post(s), I generally agree with your philosophic outlook, except for the point, which you also mention, that the pay compares poorly.
That, along with BS that is well known in aviation, are the main reasons so many(who actually work as AME's) don't speak highly of this trade.

I think I can speak for all when I say that all of us came into this biz liking/loving airplanes and aviation, and that many of us have had that feeling tempered/eliminated after being in it for several years. I know I only think of it as work and something at which I need to maximize my return for the time I have to spend at it. Can't 100% say I hate the work, but Im to the point where Im not disappointed when I have a multi-day stretch of snagless airplanes.

Anyway, enjoy your gig.

Personally, I'd take 10 years of welders wages over 10 years of AME pesos and be incomparably better off financially.
Really? You'd prefer this for 10 years?

not that there's anything wrong with it...but I'd say you love money way more than you ever did aviation

WAGES 10 YEARS OF WELDERS WAGES. UNDERSTAND???

-34(I've worked in -52 w/wind chill) EITHER WELDING OR WORKING ON AN AIRPLANE IS SHITTY, BUT THE WELDERS AREN'T MAKING 30 A/HR, SO I'D RATHER MAKE MORE MONEY IF I HAVE TO BE IN THE COLD, UNDERSTAND? AT LEAST ONE'S HANDS ARE WARMER WHEN WELDING.
BY POSTING THAT LINK AND SUGGESTING WELDING IS WAY WORSE, I SUSPECT YOU HAVE NEVER WORKED ON ANYTHING OUTSIDE IN THOSE TEMPS. IT ALL SUCKS IN THAT TEMP, SO YEAH, I'LL TAKE AS MUCH AS I CAN GET IF I HAVE TO BE IN IT.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH LOVING MONEY? IM SURE MOST BUSINESSMEN LOVE MAKING MONEY, SO WHY IS THAT SO BAD FOR AN AME?

ONE IS CALLED GREEDY, THE OTHER AMBITIOUS. WHY THE DEMARCATION?

Seriously?? That was sincere??

Being in the typical frame of mind when reading your posts, I saw/see sincere sarcasm and that you don't like money.

Seriously.

I don't and have never judged anyone because of what they like or how they make their living.

...I only judge people that tell me there is something wrong with me because of what I like and how I make my living.

There's nothing wrong with the welding trades.

I posted the link but never wrote anything about it...never said there was anything wrong with it...never called you greedy.
You wrote all that...in CAPITAL LETTERS.

I just asked a simple question and made a simple observation.

Because I like aviation and my job, I would rather take less money to work on avionics in a hanger, from 8 - 4, Mon - Fri.

...then take more money to work in a ditch staring at fire all day....everyday...for 10 years...

BTW, I was born and raised in the North.
