Looks like I have been flying three and a half years.

Assuming I flew twenty four hours a day continually. :mrgreen:

On the topic of forward slips: I virtually never do them on final, as I can almost always get the plane to do what I want it to do using the flaps. Flaps make the ride more comfortable, and that is what they were designed for. If your plane doesn't have flaps then obviously forward slips might be needed.

PS, everyone in this thread is using the wrong terminology. It is "forward slip", not "side slip". A side slip is when the aircraft is moving sideways relative to the wind, and a forward slip is when you're moving "forward". You don't generally use a sideslip to lose height on final unless you made a very interesting approach.

I will regularly forward slip, and occasionally side slip flap equipped aircraft on final approach. Every now and then with full flap, because I have allowed or intended a high approach, and desire a steep glide path. More often I'll forward slip with partial flap, as the slip can be entered and exited at will, where the application of flap is more "final" as retracting flaps on final to adjust your glide path is ineffective. On very cold days, I will slip with full rudder, so as to be able to carry some power down final to prevent shock cooling, and keep the engine warm.

I tried boxers once and only once in my life and cannot understand why anybody would want to wear them. I'm sorry but the feel just isn't right.

Fruit of the loom has done many studies on this so I think I will go with the manufacturers advice.

But I have only been wearing briefs for 40+ years so what would I know.

Maybe that makes me a bad person.

But what do I know compared to the supposed underwear experts on this forum. :orcass:
