This is a crack in NATO. Let's what comes next...

Re: Canada to send six CF-18s for Libya 'no-fly' mission
NATO has lately been "evolving" along the same path as the U.N. To many members, all with individual, competing agendas that are unable to agree upon anything. Far along in it's way to becoming innifectual. Perhaps it's time to cull the herd back to members that do have common goals.

Giveitago - My exact thoughts. Maybe even go further and disband N.A.T.O. and start from scratch building a new alliance (the core being Canada-U.S.-U.K.) Perhaps it is time for mainland Europe to look after their own defence too instead taking for granted that the U. S. will always be there for them.
Re: Canada to send six CF-18s for Libya 'no-fly' mission
We could go a long way at looking at our own defense as well, however, it seems we can't get support for replaceing 30yr old aircraft. I can't imagine the uproar if we had to start paying for things like effective AWACS or other high tech support.Moose47 wrote:Giveitago - My exact thoughts. I think that we have to look at NATO and re-evaluate what we expect it provide. It was never intended as a "policing" force but rather as an effective and armed deterrent to aggression upon member nations. Last time I checked, Libya was not a member nation, neither was the league of Arab nations.
I believe we should be there doing what we are doing, I just find it odd that NATO is doing the bidding of the U.N at the request of the Arab League. As usual, many members of the U.N are more than willing to commit others to do the "work" while they sit at home and complain about how it gets done.

Global TV has it all figured out for us, here a report explains what's going on,
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=10b_1300827899
Good thing there is an explanation,
“While on the air during the 6 p.m. News Hour broadcast on Monday, March 21, Global Toronto reporter Mark McAllister suffered a minor medical issue causing him to experience a moment of disorientation. Paramedics were immediately called to the scene, where Mark was fully checked out and is feeling better. As a precaution, Mark will be pursuing this matter with his own doctor.
Mark would like to thank all Global Toronto viewers who have expressed concern for his well-being.”

Wow, you read fast, I didn't even have 60 seconds to amend my post!!!
Hadn't read the story line on the 'more' link, I actually thought it was a
teleprompter malfunction.
Especially after the medical issue with a California reporter a couple of weeks ago.

Quick like a bunny, that's me.
Strokes/TIA hit a little close to home in my family. I've learned a little about them.

No F-22's http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i= ... =MID&s=AIR
Although I see Qatar has sent two Mirage 2000's.
UAE was going to send 24 aircraft, but have changed their position due to EU and USA
comments on ongoing political drama in UAE comments.
Also E-4B 73-1677 1 ACCS (USAF B747) is operating out of Israel.

This is the USAF Strike Eagle that crashed near Benghazi - apparently the wrecked F-15E
was bombed yesterday - destroying anything left from the crash!!

Click Here first woman to fly a Typhoon - enforcing no fly zone.
Also a French Rafale shot down a Soko Galeb S-2 Trainer - though it could be used for light attacks. It's the first aircraft to have defied the no-fly zone to date. Washington Post.

I find it ironic that the biggest arms deal France ever made was with Libya!! Some 200 fighters purchased. Loudest war drum beating was from France. My two cents. Other than that GODSPEED to our boys and girls!!!!

Makes perfect sense. You can sell them some more fighter planes later if you shoot some of them down now. It was Le General who was quoted as "France has no friends, only interests."IFRATC wrote:I find it ironic that the biggest arms deal France ever made was with Libya!! Some 200 fighters purchased. This guy is putting out good daily summaries of what's going on each day, what jets are doing what etc. It helps to understand them if you have at least a passing knowledge of military aircraft and activities though.
Also the jet that was "shot down" is now reported to have been hit on the ground, shortly after landing.
