Its amazing when you see those pictures how little hair you have on your no no no all those stitches you had in your back...eeewwww!

"So, do you have any marks or identifying scars, kid?"
"Gee officer, just this zipper in my back so I can carry a small kangaroo!"

I'm glad to hear you are up and about, even as I am disappointed at your failure to use all that down-time to learn a really useful skill, like car washing or grocery-packing. Bet there aren't too many car-washers with scars like that. Usually you have to buy a motorcycle.

I've been doing this for 35 years now and I'm just bent, not bowed. You can live long and become funny-looking too if you stay off motorcycles. Wait, I didn't do that...they say the brain is the first...wait...what were we talking about?

XS... I was restricted to lifting anything over 4lbs up until today. Now it's 15lbs.. NO PULLING or PUSHING anything. No twisting.. definatly no contact sports or extrenuous activities... however was told to "feel free having sex" Go figure.

I washed my car today... first time since the road trip to bella coola almost 3 months ago! Took about 4 times the normal time.

Still takes me about 10 minutes to put socks on. Also I can't eat much yet... Still sitting with about 40lbs less bodyweight on me. Always cold now... kinda sucks. Glad summer is just around the corner.

Memory is still kinda effed.. I find my short term to be a little wonky. It'll all come back in due time!

Big smile on my face as I'm still here to talk about it.

As for the hair.. Who needs it? just more wind resistance

I think they shaved a bit when they found ass loads of blood in my hair..

I looked a lot worse when they found me as I'd been using the blood from my mouth (which was warm) to warm my hands up while waiting for SAR. then wiping it on my sweater.. must have been ALL OVER me. haha the strange ideas you get when in shock.

Hey Rowdy!

From a fellow aviator, glad to see you're getting back on track that quickly :smt023

Hope you'll be back up there, in the big blue skies, soon!

Cheers,

Good to hear you're getting better, Rowdy. God knows you're young enough you may actually want to get back to work!

It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that you can have sex again - I worried a lot about that with you.

15# is about the weight of a full can of Guinness so go crazy.

On a serious note Rowdy, after being so close to taking the big dirt nap are you rethinking a career as a pilot?

Not trying to stir the pot I am just curious that's all.

I'm not giving up my dream over something as simple as an accident :)

From the age that I could talk.. I talked about airplanes.. from the day I could grasp the idea of a job.. all I wanted to do was fly.. I've grown up around aviation and love all the aspects. From the friendships and sights the adventures to the actual machines themselves..
to me theres nothing that even compares. I could never slave away in a trades type job or hide in a cubicle for 8hrs a day or more.. It's just not me.

I've learned a ton about myself and those around me.. my friends and family and my fellow aviators because of this. Going to be doing things differently in the future thats for sure. Some folk out there (you know who you are) really suprised me.

I've come this far and overcome quite a few hurdles to get here and it would be a sorry sight to give up so easily and especially now.

The industry is stuck with me for as long as I'm capable of holding a licence!

Hopefully that answers your question

Oh you guys should have seen this guy last Sunday.. I picked him up and took him to the Flying Beaver..

What a show.. He used the sympathy thing on every girl there..

What a guy, I was so disgusted .. Or jealous..

Anyhow, we had a great time and Rowdy is doing OK..

He'll finish up almost as good as new..

cheers

Hey Rowdy, just saw this topic, guess I don't check avcanada too often anymore! Glad to hear you're well, and I hope if I'm ever in a similar situation I'm as easy going/optimistic/eager to get back in the cockpit as you are. Take it easy

While Rowdy is recovering he is going to learn to sail my sail boat....as I learn...

At least if we run into something the speed should not kill us. :smt041

Scar pictures as promised!

Image

This lovely beast is where the mandible came through when it shattered. About a thumbs width but isn't TOO noticeable. Bonus points for anyone who can spot the other mark under there!!

Image

here you can see the 2cm split above my bum chin and the two 1cm marks where the teeth when through just below my lip. Hard to tell with a couple days stubble! Theres another one above my upper lip too.. which you can see in the net pick that kinda runs into my nostril

Image

Only One chipped tooth and the gap between the two (chipped one and crooked one) is where my jaw split as well. If I remember right.. there are 5 different pieces of titanium in my jaw.. Doesn't line up perfectly and if you look close you can see it's a bit crooked.. but I didn't give em much to work with.

Image

Not sure how the heck I ended up with both these 2 and a half inch marks on my arm.

Image

Lots of marks on my left hand from trying to get the sat phone and then trying to open the rear cargo doors. A bunch on the right hand too that I believe are from hitting the dash but they for some reason don't show up well on cam

Theres another small but 3 or 4 inch long mark on my knee.. but I'm not takin pants off for any avcan'ers.. cept maybe tower dudette!

I'll spare everyone anymore shots of my back and hairy ass crack.

Hi Rowdi. Glad to see that your patchin up fine. But I have this question that I need to ask. I was kinda just reading the thread from it beginning and was hoping someone else was going to ask it but no one has. So here goes dude. "What happened". I was in Bella Coola last week. I took a look up the Valley to the right as I headed out the inlet and couldn't figure out how you ended up in the hospital with all those injuries?

Crazy stuff Rowds. The scars should fade with time. A long time ago and behind the Iron Curtain I was once using an LP record as a frisbee and didn't catch a toss; it almost cut my top lip off. (took 5 or 6 stitches to sew it up) The scar faded well.

Good show ol' chap! Yeah I'm trying to get them to fade with a miracle concoction of things. All in all (other than the huge zipper on my back) I don't have any that'll haunt me. Got pretty luck with that.

Heya Cat.. I'll be good enough for a visit and such after the may long weekend here, So I'll be in touch.

I'd rather not post anything until the TSB finishes their investigation and posts the report. As I already said as well.. Theres still a lot of grey parts associated with the emotional trauma.

Why are ya so curious?
