It's not hard to figure out a headwind/tailwind component with instruments and attitude. If you have a GPS even better.
Do schools not teach attitude flying anymore? I've noticed a trend downwards with pilots I've flown with. No recognition of the zero movement point, fixation at gauges, needing a GPS as a crutch for glide slope rather than just looking outside and knowing how to control an aircraft.
