Despite the fact that only one company is getting exposure and that it is dramatized, I am glad that the show is on. Why? Because for most of the population airplanes are nothing more than a convenient way to get from A to B, and know little of what else there is to aviation. This exposes the fact that there is more to being a pilot than wearing a fancy uniform, pushing buttons while reading the paper and being served fresh coffee by good looking Flight Attendants.

I just read the first page so I'm sorry if this was already brought up, but shouldn't "Ice Pilots" have skis and land on snow and ice? From what I can tell, they have wheels and land on runways, no?

They do land on wheels on frozen lakes and eskers as well

That's C-FAVO.

It pays homage to its time with Lufthansa in the 1960s.

The tail camera was attached with Velcro; therefore not permanently installed on the aircraft and an STC was not required. 8)

If it was installed on the tail I am sure not having an STC would be their biggest infraction....

alpha1, thanks for the kudos.

Another episode airs tonight on History Television, 7 and 10pm Eastern time. In this one, Buffalo has to turn one of its DC4s into a fuel tanker to help a remote community. Also gives a good look at how all pilots start their careers at Buffalo - as rampies.

If you're looking to catch up on the show, full episodes are available at http://www.history.ca/video/default.aspx

I may get slammed for this but...
The attitude of the new female rampie is bugging me. Chicks in this industry can sometimes have a bad rap for getting ahead on nothing but tits and ovaries... and its a shit eating grin like hers that furthers the problem. Not ALL female pilots are like that and frankly I would hate to get ahead based on my sex and not based on my ability to pull my weight like everyone else. I wonder how long the other ramp guy has been working there without a chance at even sitting in the airplane and newby chick is getting a chance to sit left seat? ... Stupidity... I hate that she says something along the lines of "if they offered me a chance to fly tomorrow I would say yes" (insert "even if it means I get to step over everyone else who ACTUALLY earned it because I have boobs..")

Granted this is TV and the dont actually say whether or not Jeromey (other rampie guy) has already had a chance at a flight with the boss they just imply he hasnt. Perhaps she has thrown her fair share of cargo with the cameras off. Who knows.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the above.

I've refrained from watching until this episode, interesting program... a little long on the drama, but it reminds me why I don't work in the arctic in winter anymore.... been there done that, learned there's life south of 60!

Ok,

I'm officially getting a giggle out of this show...

The staff accommodations in Hay River are pretty nice - you fixed wingers, jeeze.... here's one from a number of years ago in -40, my bed in the cookshack is in the top left, note the steaks thawing by the bed. Audrey should try this on for size, but my bet is she makes it.... any takers?

Overall not a bad job though.

Interesting show.

But.. How can someone who has never flown the aircraft, sit left seat on a sked flight? Last week they said the flight to Hay River in the DC3 was a shed PX flight. Didn't see any px on the flight tonight, but they did say it was a sked, not training flight.

Also liked the story about the guy falling off a wing and breaking his arm, hope he got WCB. Remember, you have the right to refuse unsafe work practices... ppppffrfft! YEah Right...if you like being on EI.
The guy who fell off that plane was me. And I didn't break my arm, I broke my back. 2 vertibre to be exact. And no, I did not recieve WCB. Another long story. To any new rampies workin at the green hangar just remember, it's a long god damn way down from the wing of a 46 so for f*** sake be careful.
