I stumbled upon a website and the guys photo's are amazing. He uses various post processing techniques and the results are just amazing.

Great shot Rebelle. Where's the runway at Tabatiere in relation to the seaplane base on the lake behind the plant, is it down towards Baie de Ha?

Yea, don't know the Bay de Ha! Ha!, where that is exactly... But the runway one end is the lake and the other end points towards the wharf/fishplant area of the town.

You seem to know the region well! Worked here before?

La Tabatière is a lovely village; I had the opportunity to fly a Beaver out there for three weeks some years ago.

Those Northcoasters are awesome people.

7 years with Les Ailes du Nord in the 1960's and 1970's. Flew out of that lake many, many times. Based there for a week once doing scintillometer survey at 400 feet with a 185 on floats. Up the hills and down the other side, and where we couldn't outclimb the hill we had to go around and rejoin the line from the other direction.

That sounds like fun! Wonder if you'd think the region changed much since that time. I know my village changed a LOT (way more houses anyways).

Rebelle, when I was a kid down there the only way around in winter was by dog team and Norseman. In the summer it was by Norseman, trap boat and the North Pioneer. (Ask your grandpa.)
When I started flying down there the only two towns with enough road for autos were Natash and Blanc Sablon. There were a few in Tabatiere, Kegaska and Romaine.

Unfortunately no, they didn't pay me enough for a camera.

Here's a few from around Sept-Iles in the early 1950's.

A Labrador Mining (Hollinger Ungava Transport) Beaver on change over. The airplane is probably CF-GQA. The buildings are long gone, they were built by Canadian Pacific Airways around 1945. That pic is probably from 1952.


Another shot of a Norseman under the crane. That's either BSA or BSF. The one taxiing in is probably CF-HAF. The Staggerwing Beech is CF-BJD. Wings flew it for a few years, then put it in storage. It was sold as is where is to a Quebecair co-pilot in 1968. BJD used to belong to Imperial Oil.


A bunch of guys from US Coast and Geodetic Survey waiting to go in the bush. To the right of the pic you can see the tail of CF-BQQ a Twin Beech. BQQ was lost at Petit Lac Manitou in April of 1954.


For those that knew him, this is a shot of Larry Roluf taken in 1955 in front of Canso CF-FZJ. FZJ was lost at Petit Lac Manicougan later on that year, with another crew. They were given the wrong altimeter setting and crashed on the ice on approach. The flight engineer survived by some miracle, the tower was unrecognizable in the wreck.
