Over weight Pilots ..
The useful load of the wheel 206 I fly is just over 1600 lbs. Full fuel is 480 lbs.
I used to weigh 180ish, then I stopped eating crap food, cut out pop, junk food, minimised sugar, starting exercising regularily, and now maintain 150 for the last couple years. No fad or quick fix, just common sense I guess.

Loc,
I think discriminating against fat people is justified if they can't get the job done. Universities discriminate against dumb people and refuse them admission, airlines make fat people buy two seats, life sucks.
P.S. You wouldn't own them, they had their OC pulled 3 years ago.

Pilot_adam,
i think your problem is more than related to piloting. being 40 lbs overweight at a young age is very bad. One day, you will not ba able to even get insurance, and you may be refused a job because of that.
Think about it. It will only get worse with age.
Cheers, and good luck!

Shows what you know, Expat.
Smoke, drink, eat and be merry = die happy.
But as soon as one of the above has an impact on aviation employment, things change.
I know a few airline drivers down here that would have never quit smoking unless their carrier went to a no tobacco policy. You'd be surprised how aviation can become a greater incentive than life itself.

Losing weight... It's all been said here in this thread for the most part. IE: No pop, cut out the chips and candy bars, stop eating later at night, sittin' in a chair all day long munchin' on stuff you don't need, and not getting out and shakin' the booty one way or another.
These things add up.
This book called "Diet for a New America" is king in respect to eating and the things you put in your body. Written by John Robbins. It scared the $hit out of me. No pun intended... But regardless, it did send a very important message about meat and dairy products as a whole.
Although one could argue and say, "A person who is happy and eats prankes and drinks beer alot may live till they're 90. At the same time one who eats sprouts and rice but lives in dread may not.
Take it for what it is, and don't forget to shake the booty, one way or another.

Yea,..
Now you can be obese and in the Cdn military
You can smoke pot and be in the US military
You can drink too much vodka and stay in the rusian army.
I think North Korea will kick our ass the way things are going...

It is each individual’s responsibility to take care of their own health. As pilots we need to be more aware of the risks associated with being overweight. The fact is, we have to see a Doctor once a year (or twice if over 40) to keep our license. This is a perfect opportunity to get professional advice on how to stay fit and loose weight. There is no excuse for overeating, and being overweight. Those who are overweight increases their risk of loosing their medical and even worse, getting sick. After all the hard work to get the job of your dreams, it would be a shame to loose it because you are a fat ass.
Take charge of your life, get off the couch go for a walk. It all starts right now so DO IT!!
Choose a healthy lifestyle and not a diet.
Blue skies and good luck
