I'm actually much the same, I'm an ardent stay in the right lane except to pass guy...so much so that I've even gone so far as to troll a guy for a while, if he doesn't pull over I'll pass him on the right, then change back in front of him and slow down until he changes lanes. I'm not quite that bad anymore, but close.

I've just been in a real mood the last week or so and couldn't resist being the troll from hell for a while.

Sorry to those I offended.

There are "Slower traffic keep right" and "Keep right except to pass" signs on Alberta highways. Unfortunately I have been unable to find any law that makes them enforceable.
...actually the colour of the sign, which is usually the same colour as a speed limit sign, makes it law if it is place there by the province.

what really picks my ass is someone driving in the left lane, at a constant distance behind someone driving in the right lane, and speeds up when the right lane driver approaches a vehicle they will soon be passing thus preventing them from doing so and having to slam on the brakes.
The Coquihalla is famous for this.

...just couln't leave this one alone

How about you're in the left lane passing a slower car. You're doing 120 -130. Mario Andretti screams up behind you, tailgates, then swerves over 2 lanes to pass us both, jumps in front of you and slams on his breaks. If I'd had my old 4X4, I would have just rammed him. I was really PO'd.

ABC1234 off Deer for Red......

That is 100 miles! Make a proper radio call. Especially in those woods. (a)It cuts down on further bickering on the already highly annoying 126.7, and (b)mid-air collisions are no fun.

Myself: "Yep, I'm a glider pilot."
Other Person: "Ohh ok, so you're not actually a pilot."

Yup, thanks buddy. I guess my Aviation Document Booklet had a typo, pilot shouldn't belong in there...

G'day

It may seem trivial but, people who wear hats in restaurants while eating and people who constantly say "you know" while being interviewed on T.V. Well buddy if I friggin know, I would not be here interviewing you! Also all the morons in this city who do not use signal lights, head lights or stop at STOP signs. There are an overabundance of them here )-:

Cheers...Chris

Having to stop at a 4 way stop sign when I am obviously the only one 10km around.
This thing as been invented for people who don't how to drive, or to put some challenge on long stretch of straight roads.

Can't wait for those roundabouts being built!

Roundabouts! Or gyratory circuses as they were called originally, are an invention from hell as they are used here in Winnipeg! The city put put a bunch of them in city neighbourhoods as "calming circles" to control traffic at intersections. Worst plan ever! They impede the smooth flow of traffic on stretches of road and make it very difficult for road clearing equipment and larger trucks to get around. Bring back the stop signs!
Thank you very much for listening to this rant. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

They impede the smooth flow of traffic on stretches of road
That is exactly the purpose of 4 ways stops.

Traffic circles are known to:
Increase traffic flow, increase safety and reduces vehicle emissions.
How can you be against that !?

After a quick Google search about them:
http://autos.aol.com/article/roundabout ... accidents/
Data from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety back up the case for a wider adoption of roundabouts.
A 2001 study reported that converting intersections from traffic signals or stop signs to roundabouts reduced injury crashes by 80 percent and all crashes by 40 percent. A similar study found a 75 percent decrease in injury crashes and a 37 percent decrease in total crashes at 35 intersections that were converted from traffic signals to roundabouts.
-----
Moraga cited a study that suggests that only about a third of the population supports the building of more roundabouts. But, after a roundabout has been built, about two-thirds to 70 percent of drivers in the community say they favor building more.
As mentioned somewhere in this article, you just have to learn how to deal with them.

The one in Swindon is worser. Could you imagine going there being used to driving on the right and having to deal with this?

That chick on Gian Jomeshi, or however he spells it, that he interviews every Friday morning. She starts a conversation in a normal tone, then three minutes in her voice has ratcheted up into frequencies that are painful to the human ear and causes dogs to howl.

People who write 'barley' in place of 'barely'.
Barley is a grain used to make a delicious drink.
On second thought, perhaps it's merely a typing transposition, but then that would bring the culprit's proof-reading skills into question - and those people annoy me also!

The problem with roundabouts is that people who have never seen or used one before don't know what the hoot they are supposed to do when they encounter one. They started putting them in around Surrey (BC) a few years ago and drivers were behaving like the people you see in airports who look like they are not only lost, but have also forgotten how to tie their shoelaces.
I had a bit of a learning curve myself and still find some of them stressful to use. A few months after one was installed near our house, I got into an argument with my wife and father-in-law about who is supposed to yield to whom in a traffic circle. With that kind of confusion and zero additional driver education I'm surprised that there hasn't been a major increase in accident rates at roundabout intersections. The way they have been implemented around here has been a major pet peeve of mine. And yes, I do realize that we are shitty drivers to begin with, that certainly doesn't help.

We have a flying club out here that appears to have inflicted their students with the nauseating "Conflicting aircraft please advise" bit of unnecessary R/T. Some experienced folks have begun to emulate them, much to the consternation of the ten o'clock coffee group that has an opinion on everything (me included!).

However, speaking of non-standard R/T reminds me of the story of a USAF aircraft returning from a training mission via a high tacan approach:

Pilot: This is chrome-plated stove pipe triple nickle natural, three in the slot, boots on and laced, gimme the nod to hit the sod.
Tower: AF 5557, you’re cleared to land. Please use proper R/T in the future.
Pilot: Rog
Tower: AF 5557, please acknowledge landing clearance.
Pilot: Rog dodge
Tower. (New voice) AF 5557, this is the Base Commander, General XXXX; I want to speak with the pilot after landing!
Pilot: Roger Dodger, you old codger; I’m a general too.

Silence.

"Conflicting aircraft please advise"
Oh yeah! What a waste of words. As said to me during a stop into London FIC, "VFR" stands for visual flight rules NOT verbal flight rules. I interpret speakers of these words to be saying, in an underhanded way: "It's now up to you to warn me if you're out there, so I don't have to keep a good lookout".

Well, remind yourselves, that one of my planes was NORDO until this spring, so for all those years, I was watching where I was going, but I was not hearing you tell me that you were not!

As I have never actually been in conflict with any of these callers, I have not tied up even more valuable time on 122.8 or 126.7 to tell you that in your world, a conflict is remotely possible....

Some experienced folks have begun to emulate them,
This is something I'll never understand, but it happens all the time. You'll hear guys who should know better say ridiculous things on the radio, and it seems to be contagious. I think there's something in the human brain that responds to the sound of another's voice and wants to emulate it. I remember the one day where one of the students was out flying and, as new students occasionally do, he forgot that "O" was "Oscar" in phoenetics. As people do in vain attempts to sound like they know what they're doing, but just pull it out of their ass, he decided that the best word for "O" was "October". It must have been infectious and sounded really good since every othe pilot within transmission distance on 122.8 that day decided that October sounded good and changed over. Like they hadn't got the memo or something.

Strange stuff.

It seems every other day there's a word of the day and suddenly everyone is saying it. This week I think its "currently". A few weeks ago it was "approximately".

My personal favorite though is when the pilots try to work in so many of the word of the day into a radio call that they realise mid way through how redundant they sound, but plow on finishing it anyhow. My absolute favorite one was when we were passing over some lonely airstrip, and the fellow who had just started up on the ground must have felt that we needed to know he was there. Maybe it was too many days away from civilization for him or something. Right away he was broadcasting "**** traffic this is **** on the ramp, taxiing across the ramp for, uh... the ramp."

There's a flying club here doing the same thing - it makes me mental. And even more so because their same call typically, and ironically, contains a very inaccurate position report.
