224 posts on this subject? Hey, they screwed up! Simple as that. Who really gives a rat's ass if anybody uses a check list, or what kind of checklist they use. Most accidents are by pilots who swear up and down they ALWAYS use a checklist! Pretty good proof that checklist do NOT work! I only use checklists if something is abnormal. I don't advocate this. But that's what I do it. There, I said it. I am not a fan of checklists. Too many times checklists are just rattled off and not followed anyway. True. I've seen it. Many times. Develop a good "scan" or "flow". If something untoward happens, by all means pull out the checklists, POH, dial up company frequency and talk to maintenance! But if you NEED a checklist to KNOW your gear is down, QUIT!

A good checklist is what you use to ensure you did not miss anything on your flow. The problem is most checklists in use at FTU's are not IMO "good"

Your statement is wonky, if they used the correct procedures how can they land with the gear up?
Because they forget. They have the procedures and the checklists, but for whatever reason they just forget the entire checklist, or run through the checks but don't actually do them. So the procedures are there, but they are just missed or not followed correctly that one time.

The problem is just human nature, not a lack of checklists or procedures. People just screw up sometimes. That's why you need a foolproof method of warning the pilot that the gear is up before landing. Not everyone can be a flying God like Cat, Hedley and Strega.

I don't pilot retractables because I KNOW that I would land gear-up at some point
That's incredibly honest, but a tad silly. Do you not wear pants with zippers
because you might have a pee, then exit the public washroom with your
dong hanging out?
Perhaps that isn't the best example, because I've never seen anyone forgot to put their dick back in their pants after having a pee, but I've seen lots of people land gear up.

That said, what are the chances that he will forget again?

Not everyone can be a flying God ...
FWIW there are a lot harder things to do in aviation besides
moving a gear handle up and down

When I said "I've seen" I didn't actually mean personally up close, I meant read about them in forums like this and accident reports!

Agreed, but it appears that remembering to move the handle is the hard part.
