Pilots in general, do not have any say on how a company is structured.

It's called Scope.

And it dictates who does the flying and what aircraft are their purvey. And how much can go to regional or other parties.

First a regional was added, then widebody aircraft... I'd be looking at the model of airline building and what may be coming 5-10 years from now... regional feed with jets, CPA agreements? Whether you guys unionise or not I'd somehow get a grip on that flying in my deal.

I am familiar with scope. This is not a discussion about scope it's about the fact a union says they can force a company to restructure its ownership and employee group under one umbrella. You thought scope agreements took long to hash out? We are talking about common employer.

Should the WPPA be successful that list will essentially be torn up. Meanwhile the WJPA is working hard at negotiating a new agreement for the Encore pilots. WJPA=one list. Any assertion that the WPPA has any clout as a labour union in dissolving Encore and forcing the company to be part of Westjet is an exaggeration of biblical proportions. I don't know where you would gather such information from, but i have my suspicions!

Not true. Any policy in place at the time of a vote remains in place until both parties agree to amend or replace said policy. I've said before both sides adamantly want to maintain one list. Yes, there is an argument that I can't be on a WPPA list because I don't pay dues. I'm certain that the same 90% that support one list will end up removing my name and inserting a place holder or some other system that accomplishes the same thing. I am not one bit worried about this at all.

A new agreement will only include some work conditions and hopefully a cost of living increase etc. It won't have anything to do with combining the companies and getting rid of second class status for Encore. It will lift the floor but that's it.

I am not saying that the WPPA has the ability to unilaterally change the structure of WestJet/Encore. I have gathered my information by talking with several members of the WPPA directly about Encore. Their stated policy is that we are all one team and if management can handle having the wide body pilots working for the same company as the 737 operation, they should be able to accommodate Encore with 20% ESP etc. under the same company structure. If this is on the agenda of the WJPA, it is as top secret as our Air Canada buyout plan.

The only thing the WPPA can guarantee is they will cost you more money. (YOU DO REALIZE THAT YOUR PACT DUES ARE ABOUT TO GO UP RIGHT? PAYING MORE FOR THE SAME, IF THAT IS ACCEPTABLE THEN LOGIC CAN NEVER WIN) The union has said that they will accomplish what they want through the same open door that the WJPA has been using over the last year and a half. The WPPA filed yet another unfair labour practice complaint before the CIRB yesterday (eACH COMPLAINT IS BROUGHT UPON WESTJET BY THEMSELF!! IF WESTJET WOULD PLAY BY THE RULES THEN THERE WOULD BE NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. HAVING THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD AND THE CEO INTERFERE IN THE CAMPAIGN AND ATTEMPT TO COERCE OR OTHERWISE INFLUENCE PILOT'S CHOICES AS FAR AS THEIR REPRESENTATION GOES IS AGAINST THE LAW. THIS IS PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!). If this is the seemless transition they are touting than i really want to see that playbook. That open door is getting slammed shut!

On an additional note, regarding the recent complaint.... there are only 3 ways that complaints d appear. 1) The complaint is withdrawn by the applicant. 2) A decision is rendered by the CIRB. Since Gregg and Clive are guilty based simply upon their written statements and interjections in to the process, hearings are likely not necessary and a decision will simply be handed down. This complaint is extremely straight forward. I can't stress enough that if there was no reason for a complaint to happen, it wouldn't. This is not a case of any sort of "litigious nature", this is a united group of pilots who will no longer be subjected to the bullying and harassment that is so normal at WestJet that it has become a part of day-to-day life that WJ pilots are expected to simply suck it up or quit. Quitting is not an option and intelligent people will only take so much before calling a spade a spade and following the procedures put into place to prevent egregious breaches such as these from continuing. Don't forget how hard and loudly the innocence was proclaimed when we were blatantly spying on our competition (again against the law), they (the board of the company, led by Clive) cost us millions there and they will cost us millions again here. The WPPA is saving money by ending these nasty practices and in 4 days it is likely that all complaints will end as I strongly believe that certification is happening this week.

The saddest part here isn't that the vote went No or even Yes. The saddest part is that 55 said No while 45 said Yes. This is a split- and shows that the pilot group is quite divided.

Now is the time for the pilot group to unite. How- that is the real question

I'm not sure why you'd consider this a sad thing. The pilot group is far from 'divided', this is a very civil group with both sides interested in what the other has to say. In fact I believe its a very healthy split that will keep the company on its toes.

As the NG and MAX fleet plan and firm orders pretty well sets the 737 capacity (including growth) for the next 15 years, "near future" would have to be 2030 or so to transfer any significant jet flying from mainline to Encore.
