If you want to be an AME in Canada, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with the TC websites, CARs regs and standards. There is a whole section on there that describes what an AME-E (or M, or S) exam will have on it, in general terms, as well as regs exams, and reference study material.

I’m not providing a direct link, think of this as an opportunity to practice navigating that website and find the information you’ll need. It’s not a hard thing to find, took me less than 30sec to confirm it was still on there. Some of the listed publications are outdated, but many are available online for free. And many you likely won’t need if you are already a practicing AME in your home country and took schooling on the technical knowledge already.

Do you guys know of any AME (M) refresher courses offered in or around the GTA region? Currently studying on my own, but would love to attend if there's a refresher course offered near me. Appreciate any help.

Cheers,

Look first in the job ads and then make sure you want to pursue it. 27/hr for a “junior” AME is what is out there. Sad but true. This is from a fairly well established outfit who in all honesty should know better. Enjoy your career full of dissatisfaction and disappointment.

+1 unfortunately, my advice, get the license and sell yourself into a technical job that actually pays

The thing is we kind of expect to have a good standard of life working a profession that requires technical and standard application because it's a higher quality of work. You can't even eat doing this job and the guy here is correct that you can only do this job as a sideline! You cannot support yourself with this pathetic profession in this country in today's economy!

I know somebody who studied IT maintenance, paid 30K tuition fee, 10 years after, he is making $50/hr, good benefits and compensations, and have better lifestyle. Who would want to be an AME or a pilot if one knows the realities of those professions? It's not even a red seal trade lol! So what is this? As*-kissing?

I will ask again, what has changed for the better in this industry over the course of 10 years? Exactly! It's so pathetic and I am so done with Aviation!

This job is just so f*cking abusing!

Bro, so this is about my bad experience? The industry is garbage and we all know it. This forum is garbage as well because it's about this industry. You AMEs are so full of it. You aren't being paid enough for your expenses and responsibilities. You might as well just groom in a big airline and milk the system. You know why I left instead of doing that? While the work is light and you waste a lot of time doing nothing, airlines have terrible schedule and a lot of OT. I could get a better lifestyle doing just 1 shift in automotive operating a machine. I don't do sh*t and I have a normal 40 hour/week schedule. Guess what? I get paid the same! Why would I stay as an AME when I've been stuck with the low pay? You cannot eat doing this job! To be honest with you, I make more just watching the machine. You treat your job as a career, I treat mine as a gig. And I don't do tech anymore. All I got from that is being treated like a piece of sh*t.

Get a life people and stop talking jargons! You're too loud!

Umm....I spent $7000 tuition, making $55/hr, on a 5-5-4 shift (means I'm only working half the year) with 30 PTO days/year. OT if one wants it. It's a pretty sweet lifestyle.
I'm loving it.

Bro, I spent $8k tuition fee as a domestic student. The same as you. You wanna know more about the difference between white and blue collar? White-collared people put their education first before working so they get to have the privilege to be higher on the hierarchy and get more of the resources, all while doing less of the work, while us, we still have to put money into our education after working/on the job. So? We are spending the same (if not more) onto our education anyway! What do we get? Exactly bro! As an AME, you have to spend more! I've been stuck with the low pay man! How much did you pay on your education overall to make that elusive $55/hr?

Bro, if I like snakes because they are polymorphic animals with morph combinations, you are obsessed with planes. There is a terminology to describe your kind bro! It's called "aerosexuals"! You people get no red seal for getting into this work! It's abusive, believe me, I have been there! Let's clear the elephant in the room here, you don't get to make enough money in this industry to even begin to support yourself and this is exactly how my life have crumbled while in this industry. How much did you spend in your education in total to be successful in this industry? Exactly! While you're making a top out pay, you invested a lot in order for you to make that. At the end of the day, it's about recouping the loss. I don't know anything about that, but it seems like a lot of AMEs here are complaining that they are not being compensated enough.

Snakes are cumbersome but tools aren't? Instead of being abused, I will maintain that sh*t and sell them to people.

That's correct, I would rather sniff their sh*t than to kiss a*ses as an AME. The AME profession is a joke bro! What are you sniffing? The kerosene from the pollution. That's worse than the cleaning that I'm doing.

Buddy, take it easy or you risk having a stroke at this level of frustration. There are people who make more than a decent living working in this industry, you don’t have to be wrenching on airlines doing night shifts to make good money. This country is full of OEM that provides you with a great schedule, very good money and a very interesting career.

He'll come back and repeat his tale of woe again. You are right there are good jobs in the industry outside the airlines. What's that saying when working for the airlines, leave brain at door?

Jepsen books including helicopter book. Make sure you study irrelevant aircraft like 727, bell 47, Beech 18. Transport Canada likes the colour red for some reason so if any colour questions come up that will be the answer. Again TC typical government ass backwards thinking will be based on outdated old information. That’s key.

Hello folks. I recently made my soft landing as PR and planning to move permanently within a year.
I am currently working in Midddle Eastern airline on A320s & B787s with being qualified for A320 and signing them off for past 03 years. I have been working in this field for past 15 years while holding EASA B1/B2 & GACA Licenses.
Now from what I understood there is no foreign license conversion to TC. Therefore I did my diploma with ICS already. Logbook for M2 license needs to be filled 70% of the total tasks but I am unable to fill it all as not all tasks fall under Turbofan engine aircrafts on which I work.
Is there any place around Toronto where I can join and work or do OJT so that I can complete my logbook?
And for the exams preparation are there any handbooks or app which help you out as these Jeppesen books are too much (already did once for ICS). Like for FAA A&P there is Prepware for test practice.

I would appreciate for any tips and suggestions given considering my portfolio. Thank you.
My email: osama.khalyd@live.com for anyone want to link directly.
