Flyboeing
Read before you post he was airborne for 10 minutes, how do you run out of fuel that quickly? Then when he was in the river he smelled the fuel spilling out. Hmmmm doesn’t sound like he ran out of fuel.
I wonder if you would have survived an engine failure in that type of terrain.

I see what you mean about people talking like idiots. God I’m mad now too.

The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re a pilot.

flyboeing, your a class act. wait till all the details come out before you jump on this guy.
i dont think airlines are gonna make a list of guys not to hire because of their mistakes. i could tell you a 100 stories about mistakes guys have made that, according to you, would be blacklisted from companies. give your head a shake!

It's a tough call zaac and I'm not going to criticize the kid for making that choice. The Elbow river is pretty cold this time of year, hell it's cold in the summer; no telling whether or not getting on the radio and guiding them in saved him from freezing to death.zaac wrote:If my life wasn't in immediate jeopardy I sure wouldn't be playing with the radio when fuel is all over the place.
As for flyboeing, I'll join the chorus; according to reports he had an engine failure ten minutes into the flight, he did not run out of gas! Don't be such a jackass and condemn the kid without knowing the facts!

Actually I think the reason AC used to have a spot on the application form for "Have you had a reportable aviation occurrence/incident, explain" is that lightening doesn't usually strike twice on the same spot. So Biatch actually has more chance of getting hired now.flyboeing wrote:every airline in canada is gonna remeber that name and black list, He's gonna have a tough time getting a job in a few years. Come on running out of fuelEven Air Canada won't want someone like that. What an idiot, its not like a car, you just can't pull over when you run out of gas and call AMA.
Anyway good to hear he's okay. How's ol CCP doing? A lot of history in that plane. My first solo for instance...
co-joe - what you are talking about is similar to the 2 bomb theory. The chance of getting on an airplane where someone has brought a bomb is millions to one but the chance of getting on an airplane where there are 2 bombs on board are billions to one so to get the higher odds, I will bring my own.
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Grandpa(Navigator WWII) told me many times he would fly with a pilot who'd crashed before one who hadn't any day of the week. Mostly because of the learning experience, not the odds. More of a reality in the 40's though, and not present day.co-joe wrote:Actually I think the reason AC used to have a spot on the application form for "Have you had a reportable aviation occurrence/incident, explain" is that lightening doesn't usually strike twice on the same spot. According to the local news last night the insurance company says GCCP is a write-off. They airlifted it back to YBW with a helicopter.co-joe wrote: Anyway good to hear he's okay. How's ol CCP doing? A lot of history in that plane. My first solo for instance...
They also managed to start the engine with very little difficulty. So they are now thinking carb ice as a cause.
The young fella was up with an instructor yesterday too in GVLO, they wouldn't let him solo because of the concussion he suffered in the "landing".

Was he / is he a cadet?
Cod Father, that was one of the most dickish things i think i've ever someone say. You're perfect right? You're obviously a predjudice guy who thinks hes better than everyone else. Too bad the pilot wasnt a girl, you could hold that agaisnt the guy too. Get a job man.
What goes around comes around and judging people on dumb crap like that is gonna do nothing but make you look like a moron.
whats a guy gotta do to get a job in this town?

Plane Down YYC.
Its really amazing, all of the armchair pilots out there. Why assume that the pilot ran out of fuel, why say" I wouldnt be using the radio in a situation like that" What I suggest is we should be grateful that the pilot walked away from this and no more than that. I suppose its just typical of this forum.

I've flown from Springbank, around Bragg Creek...and to tell you the truth, as beautiful as the scenery is, it not that hospitable for small single engine acft that run into trouble.
I think I will refresh my memory on Google maps to see where he eventually went down.
I'm pretty sure that cell phone reception is almost non-existant in that area, at least it was for me.
I'd use the radio as well, and hope for the best.(No spark)
What were the WX conditions like at the time?
The wind out there (even when blowing slightly) can be tricky coming off the mountains.
Thumbs up from me for being able to walk away.
