Well i am not 100% sure the max pilots were to blame. The airplanes are a lot more complicated than they used to be, from what i gather. People used to get killed quite a bit in the old days too, running straight into obstacles, screwing up landings, and flying poorly maintained equipment. But the basics are still important, which kind of gets lost: as someone told me recently, airplanes are just airplanes, no matter how many knobs there are.

Two pairs of inexperienced pilots failed to recognize the symptoms of a trim runway (Essentially). In one case after disabling it, they re-engaged it, because they couldn't manage without an autopilot on a vfr day.
It is really frightening to find out that there are so many airlines killing their passengers because the pilots they employ are so incompetent.
This is irresponsible. Read the preliminary reports. Try to understand the situation. First crash the pilots didn't even know that MCAS existed because Boeing willfully withheld information on it from any operating manuals. How are they expected to be competent on a system that they are unaware of?

Well, i don’t know if you have ever have experienced a pusher malfunction or a trim runaway situation, in RL or in a qualifying sim, but the reaction is mostly the same in every aircraft. Regain control manually while simultaneously disabling the system, calm your nerves, take a breath, ask yourselves wtf was that, dig out checklist and carry on.

Easy to say, but i’ve had, and watched, incompetent pilots watch the aircraft fall into undesirable states and sit there just staring at it, bewildered. Partly due to poor training, but mostly due to lack of experience/lack of experience in dealing with startle factors and unexpected things happening. Heck, i’ve seen guys just freeze up on unexpected go arounds.
Mcas played a part, but it was only a small hole in the cheese.

Regardless, watching on a camera, we would have only known what we already know.

A “small hole”? Sorry, but a system that’s designed to intervene with a major flight control and can be triggered by a single point of failure is a Mac truck sized hole in the old Emmentaler.
