The court concluded that it was legitimately in the State's interest and within law to compel an individual to be inoculated against a virulent, dangerous and highly contagious disease. The back story of the person that brought the suit is fascinating and the case itself had considerably more depth than you might imagine. There is a side bar on how this decision was used as prescient for among the most profoundly evil decisions ever made by the court years later.
