I think that if the new contract is anything less then a home run AC will actually see a lot of its fresh new talent updating their logbooks for overseas employment. I doubt a large percentage are signing up with the expectation of 4 years of poverty pay.

If this happens I would love to be in the board room as they are shocked to see all the new people hired are leaving and seeing their expansion plans go up in smoke. Then they have to face the shareholders
Tbh, they'd fill the warm seats up with manufactured pilot applicants from India and elsewhere in the world before they face the shareholders.
Ummm like Sunwing was planning before they were denied..
India?

Regarding relief pilot. How exactly can it be "detrimental"? Logged hours are still logged hours. Are you saying that if you ever decide to go down south, US airlines will be "NO, those logged hours are relief pilot, they don't count!"? or if you ever want to switch to WJ, they won't hire you on the 737 (since 787 on WJ takes a decade to switch to and my understanding is that it's only internal)

And at some point, can't you transfer from relief to FO when your seniority increases over time?

That’s exactly the point. The problem is highlighted when people ask how to log the hours (in another thread) and no one really has a clue. The question was asked at one of the PIT courses, and even then people didn’t know. The instructor advised just not to bother logging them since you’re at your career airline now.
The other worry is that employers might say that you have not done a take off or a landing in the last 90 days and therefore you’re not current.
Warning the seat is not really flying… let’s not pretend. And neither is sitting on the jump seat watching - even though they emphasize how you’re also part of the decision making etc etc.

Of course seniority will allow you to switch over time, but if you’re gonna go south then you’d be silly to wait that long.

Out of curiosity does anyone know if there's a minimum jet hour time for RP? I'm pretty sure there is for WB FO.
