Hopefully the public never hears about Porter then.

The only way to get decision making experience is to actually make decisions. Yes, sitting as an FO and watching captains contact operations and SOCC endlessly might seem easier, but if you have time on type and feel like you can safely do the job, go for it.

Jet PIC is huge. Get it while you can.
I agree with this. Just know your limitations and don't feel pressured into situations you are not comfortable with. I think one of the hardest/biggest part if being a Captain, is knowing when to say no. When not to go. And when to go around. Don't gauge your decisions based on what others might do, make them based on your experience and comfort levels.
That’s the problem, we are not a 703/704 charter airline, we are a scheduled 705 operation, if commercial wants us to go, we go with very few exceptions.
If a Captain off line Indoc has to cancel because they’re not comfortable, they’re not ready, plain and simple!
I’m sorry but I very much disagree with that…yes we have obligations but that should in no way override the crew’s decision to refuse a flight for safety reasons including ones own personal comfort level. I remember doing exactly that as a green captain on the Q. Fast forward a few years and a similar scenario presented itself but I had a much higher comfort level and went. Commercial is sitting at a warm desk… You are in the plane facing the elements.

That really is the point though, if you are at the airline level and not comfortable enough to go with an alternate airport, then maybe you weren’t ready for the left seat of an airliner.
As I said, when I went left seat, my first flight off line Indoc was into a blizzard, I had over 10,000 hours, I was completely comfortable doing that flight. It was a stand-up with a green FO, if you are not comfortable with that, you aren’t ready, it’s really that simple. Learn your comfort at a 703/704 operation, airliners should not be cancelled for the pilots comfort level, a valid safety concern is very different but even the possibility of freezing rain is not a great reason to cancel, it may or may not be there and that’s what alternates are for.
Imagine an Air Canada pilot or WJ cancelling a flight because they were uncomfortable, we are not supposed to be a Captain training academy but now we are I supposed.

Ludicrous. The OP is already at jazz and has time on type, Knows the operation and has watched captains deal with dispatch and their shenanigans.

Are you any better of a decision maker when you were green, accepting a stand up as a green captain with a green fo!? You may have the experience now.

Edit: missed the part where you said you had 10000 at this point. But still lol

To the OP; get that jet pic.
