I had honestly thought about opening a cat house down here in Brazil tailored to the aviation market. I know of two male F/A’s that did just that right in front of the airport for those “4 hr. layovers”. (Cool place this…).
I was going to hire some of my pilot friends as Quality Control Inspectors.
Funny how friends suddenly appear out of nowhere….
Even said they would work for free……
Work for free…pilots...it never ends…..scum….

Re: Side job
One job to consider is one I lucked into- airport security. Flexible hours and schedule and decent pay (~16/hr) for standing around.
I don't know which company provides service to YYZ but they would likely be interested in hiring pilots as the company out here was. I'm not talking about standing in the terminal at a door either- you want to apply for airside (escort) services. The pay to stand at a door is about a third less and is such a narrow skill set anyone can do it. Airside is the way to go. Pilots make a really good airside escort because we already have a radio license and airfield knowledge, making us easy to train. Its the reason I got my job and was one of the first certified.
The job itself is so easy it makes flying look strenous by comparison. You take people who are not security cleared airside to do what they need to. Think electricians, plumbers, roofers, etc. You take them where they need to work and monitor their progress/organise with the airport authority. In practical application this means just babysit them until they leave. If all goes well you do almost nothing at all....
It is worth looking into seeing who provides this service near you and give them a call. Stress you are a pilot and know all about planes/airports and need almost no training and they will probably jump at the oppertunity to hire you. Thats how it worked for me.
Good luck in your job search. Hope this helps...
