jonas_tind is the Seller.

This is my last attempt to make the $200k++ I spent on my career of my own money, to pay of. I would be stupid not to try something innovative and a little stupid in one last desperate attempt. And for beeing a looser, I am highly succesful in my other career and I make more money a year on that than I probably will as a pilot. But I love flying and money is not the most important thing in this world.

I am not sure why you are all so pissed off. The guy is just trying to make it in an industry he likes.

How is it any different then the someone with money in the family having mom or dad cover the bills while they work for nothing or living expense to get time.

I think you all have to much time on your hands if all you can do is put others down on their attempts to make it in a industry that in order to get ahead you have to have money or work for nothing.

It's because in this industry instead of nurturing our young we eat them. Getting a few hours under our belts also makes our memory fuzzy so we can't remember what we did ourselves at that stage of our careers. That's why instead of politely explaining the long term damage this guy's actions do to our profession, we eviscerate him.

My $1.17 was outbid...and I thought I had a swamper for the summer. I hope he works out for you articboy0, your $1.26 was just slightly out of my price range. :(

Sure, it might not be the most orthodox way to promote yourself, but as far as I am concerned the only place he went wrong is the starting bid price. It will take him a while to make 200k @ $1.26 a year. Should have put the opening bid at something reasonalble.

More exposure..looks like AV Web gave him even more exposure..

Psssst: Wanna Buy A Pilot?

Finding a good pilot is always one of the more formidable challenges aircraft operators have. Of course, the converse is true: Finding a decent piloting job at a trustworthy company can be harder than the flight training necessary to do the flying. One enterprising Norwegian pilot is trying to use the popular Internet auction site eBay to widen his job search and, hopefully, snag a flying job. The pilot, with the eBay ID of "jonas_tind," is auctioning "unlimited use of a male pilot (27) for one year." According to the auction, he so far has earned his FAA commercial pilot certificate and an instrument rating and has logged 350 hours total time. He's also type-rated in the Beech/Raytheon 1900 B/C/D.

According to the auction, the winner gets "unlimited use of me as a pilot for one year" with the highest bid serving as his annual salary. The winning bidder must guarantee approximately 50 flying hours each month. The pilot will travel "anywhere in the world the winner requires," but the winning bidder must supply accommodations. As we were preparing this edition of AVweb-Biz, the auction was only at $1, with four days to go.

Not true. Lots of university students and grads(and not just from the Arts faculty, either) do "Summer Internships". this is just working for free to get experience. And I mean really for free....like no renumeration at all...maybe some travel expenses, though. Happens all the time, not just in aviation.

I'm not condoning the practice by any means, but come on guys....it's a universal thing...people wanting experience in their respective fields willing to do anything to get it since it will payoff later.

I don't know what's more odd: that somebody would put themselves on eBay; that this guy wants to work for a company that would shop for people at auction; or that somebody actually did a search for "pilot" on eBay and found this ad in the first place.

Plenty of pilots don't earn enough at their first job to pay for their own room and board, or get 50 hours a month. So he's not really pimping himself out any more than most of us once did.

My concern is that he's setting himself up to work for one of the scuz balls in the industry, but I guess that's a risk he's assessed so I can only wish him luck like any other rookie out there trying to make it in this crazy industry.
