A float pilot complaining about bad radio calls. What is that, pot, kettle, black.

Try learning from the old time guys about the info needed and not repeating your registration 2 or 3 times per call. This lesson should be studied very closely by the new 206 driver especially

Hmm, I try to make a point of saying my reg at least twice, at the beginning and end of the call, just in case you miss one..

My favorite airplane to fly has always been the HS-748. The design and stability of this AC made it a pilot friendly airplane. Its highly forgiving, stable and yes because of the lack of hydraulic controls , you feel like flying a big airplane. But of course, size is relative! Now on my heavy Airbus, I can see that the 748 is not so big at all compared to modern airliners. But it will always stand tall in my heart! I hear you 100/105. I couldn't believe he said that! That's the tough part in congested areas. You miss calls. I had heard one call, but wasn't sure. My fo asked where he was and I said "find him and ask him". One call on 22.8-nothing, 26.7-nothing. So I called twice on 22.8 because I wanted to know and knew he was listening. I have two radio's and didn't get any reply until the pissed off one. It's as simple as that. It's true as you learn the routes the better you get at knowing where people are, but when everyone is converging on the same spot you do need to be careful. I'll ask when I'm not sure, everytime. Not only that there are alot of new people flying in an area like this. Never worked before people. That's part of our jobs. If you want to get away from newbies, go fly for the airline, don't fly in Red Lake.
Yes we can all do our jobs better in one way or another. I've shortened my radio calls, know all the routes now and the other guys are learning too. But I still can't respect a bad attitude. There is no place for it. We all started somewhere.

p.s. I like saying the airport name twice in my calls.
p.p.s. I hate the call "So and so is Red Lake for Sandy" What IS that?

What's the point? Who cares if they don't know your call sign? I'm more concerned that they know my position. Worst case scenario they just say "Traffic into YTL on 23.2 it's ABC123" if they want to get my attention to resolve something. Seeing as I just made a call, I'm pretty sure I know they're talking to me. This whole "radio redundancy" thing that some people believe in is rediculous. Say who you are, where you are, and what your intentions are. Easy as that. And yes, I am a radio nazi

Actually, speaking of, as of January 2008 all the 748 will have to be equiped with a TCAS just like all planes operated in the 705 regulation

mag1 I was in the air that day also and i herd the f/o reply to your first 2 call's in addition to the calls made clear of the zone. It was not until your 3rd call that you were called a jackass. If you are going to ask a pilot where they are, make sure you are listening for a reply.
