Jablowme,

I refuse to get into a pissing contest with you, making statements about another center's workload without having done it yourself is a bad case of generalization, the same could be said about any high level sector without actually knowing the individual complexities each one provides.

Unless you have done it yourself within the last couple of years then I apologize.

If the response posts had been along the lines I've "Well I think CAATS stinks because of A... and also because of B,C,D etc etc"

That would in my books qualify as an adult conversation. Unfortunately many of the responses in this thread have been anything but.

You seem to do a lot of apologizing for your assumptions.

Well, should I be? You haven't yet eluded to the fact you do/have worked in yqm, but there is always the possibility of so. My apology was for the very slim chance you do/have.

i work at YUL.
CAATS can do wonderful things.
CAATS is not perfect.
CAATS has a lot of potential if the serious bugs are fixed.
it will be 100 times better when all centers will be running on it and when we get rid of the bloody strips.

For what its worth, TAAATS (The Australian Advanced Air Traffic System) has been in play for around 9 years and once you get used to 'feeding the beast' you would never go back. Its good kit once you're used to it and they have ironed out the bugs.

Ours is Thales, yours is Raytheon so don't know the similarities.

Cheers from Oz,
L

I personally think the bugs should have been worked out prior to the updates being used on live traffic, I find the transitions distracting from my duties and thus dangerous. Did I mention before how much I love NavCanada?

Why didn't you just buy something that already works in a number of ANSPs (the bugs are already ironed out) off the shelf?

Can't be referring to me on this one! I have only made two posts regarding CAATS, one a question, that was never answered, and the second a bit of humour to my Aussi friend. Who has changed their position here?

I was over in Amsterdaam on a fam flight recently and their system was really good, seemed along the line of CAATS but with a really good weather component and comm system. AND......they've been running in for years and years though.

Seems like everybody else has had a PSP for nearly a decade and we just brought our brand new Gameboy to show and tell.

10 years ago CAATS might have impressed people.

because they already spent 20 years and >2 billions on that! they would look pretty stupid to flush it down the drain and buy thales' stuff. and they look not that sharp trying to fix it again after 20 years of "hard work".

damn if they do, damn if they don't!
