One of the problems a training Captain is faced with, is the new hire who, as a result of something learned on a different aircraft, automatically assumes it to be a general fact.
Your repy referred to a specific model of PT-6 and a specific installation. I am not saying you can not generalize that to all PT-6 starts, but it is a dangerous, and possibly very expensive assumption.
I am going to re-iterate my original post. You should always refer to the AFM for the particular aircraft that you are flying to determine the correct starting procedure. To do otherwise is just plain foolish.

Re: Starting a PT6 with bleeds open?
The Caravan manual states that starting the engine with the bleed air on can possibly lead to a hotter start. I noticed no unusual increase in ITT temperature. Regardless, I now make it part of my pre-landing check to turn the bleed air off, to hell with passenger comfort
Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......
Re: Starting a PT6 with bleeds open?
Starting with airframe bleed valves open will be a warmer start. I have accidentally done it a few times barely noticing. No biggie.
It's a amazing how the term "bleed valve" can be be so easy a term to get two types of valves confused.
Another term is "fuel Pump". People call the boost pumps, fuel pumps. Which is wrong. The fuel pump referred to by that name is accessory mounted for the fcu. But I commonly see the wording of fuel pump used for the boosters.

Don't be disgruntled....move on!
Re: Starting a PT6 with bleeds open?
If the manufacturer thought it was important enough to emphasize I think they would have included a note, caution or warning much like Raytheon does in the 1900 afm.
