Endless, the average is about 40,000 and thats AFTER income tax is deducted. So the average is low 60's before tax.

Whipline,
But thats combined income of a family, so half that for a single salary, or look further down at Unattached individuals, and its 27k for one person, which before tax would be quite a bit below 40k

CAL: agreed. The obviously realize this too. Rather than raise the salary to the point where they can continue to attract more experienced candidates they've just lowered the hiring requirements. This seems to be an industry wide trend, not just porter.

Upgrades are fast with the current wait being somewhere less than 1 year due to all the aircraft deliveries in the next couple of years. And due to the expansion, there will probably be a few direct entry captain spots available this summer.
I've been flying for Porter for almost 2 years, so I'll say to those that get in - you'll truly enjoy the aircraft, crews you work with, and the relationship you will have with management. Good luck to all who apply!
nice to hear things like that
Porter would definitely be a neat place to work at.

Apart from the pay, could someone please elaborate on other t & cs. For example, hours per month, medical, pension, etc etc. Thanks for that!

As kenuck requested (not answered), could one of the Porter Captains or FOs elaborate on the Porter package?
Specifically, is there a minimum radius/distance from YTZ, if no payscale yet, does a Captains pay go up from 72K to ? as a second year Capt? What is the bidding process like? Is it unionized? Do you bid trips (like AC) or days off (like WJA)?
How many days a month is typical, and could you run it all together to work 15-16 days on, then two weeks off? i.e. How flexible is Porter? Also, it was suggested that 6 figures for Capts should be the new reality - when do you think this might happen? Are there stock options/profit sharing? You did mention 17% sharing. Anything else or is that it - salary + 17% ?
Appreciate any and all elaboration... Thanks

Following the news, searched previous forums and heard from good sources:
Work around 15-17 days a month. Cannot do 2 on 1 off or similar scheds. Will get your minimum 10 days off scattered over the month. Seniority based bids for pairings, vacation and days off. New computer bidding system to come online soon.
No pay scale announced for 3rd year and beyond. So far $40/$72K FO/CA plus 3.5% for second year. Profit sharing once a year based on net revenue and capped at 17% of salary.
No RRSP, no stock options, no jumpseat agreements, very limited interline travel benefits. Some or all of these may change soon.
There is a good chance of new bases opening in the near future (YOW/YUL?).
Company will pay for medical, passport and all training. Bond of aprox. $24K prorated over 24 months (no money down, just agree to repay the balance if you leave before 2 yrs.)
Need to live within 1 hr driving distance from TCCA.
2 more planes Fall 08, 2 Winter 09, 2 Spring 09.
8 more options pending (20 planes total).
Hiring 28 new pilots now (some will be direct entry CA).
Hope this helps.

How is the interview like for F/O position? Sim evaluation on same day? Any info would be appreciated!

The pilot interviews are probably still very HR oriented. There is no sim eval.
The interview is designed to find out what kind of person you are and whether you area good fit for the company
... more or less just like every other pilot interview at every other airline.

Thanks for the info - I checked earlier posts but still have some questions. How long is the ground school for those who get in? Any chance of a base in Montreal (very unlikely I think, but had to ask)? Why isn't there a sim evaluation? Thanks!

The ground school is 2 weeks long, then 2 weeks in the sim, followed by 3-4 weeks on line indoc. You get paid full salary from day 1 of training.
Right now, no base in YUL, but that may change within the next couple of years.
No sim evaluation - and I'm just speculating - because it would be too time consuming and they believe personality and attitude to be most important.

One more question! How long does it usually take before getting a reply (good/bad) after the Porter interview?
thanks... (I'm asking these questions for my hubby pilot)

The whole process should take less than a month.

Is there anyone here who is scheduled for an interview with Porter? Or received any call from them? I applied almost more than a month back. Haven't heard anything from them so far.

What are the pairings like? Any longer ones, ie: 4days? What about per diems?
Cheers
