Sure would've been nice to have the details though, rather than just racially charged unsubstantiated comments.
I don't have any details either. That's why I had "If"s in front of my sentences.

Guys, I've worked both ZBB and YPK when they were at their busiest...and there are plenty of times when the failure of a pilot to follow instructions or does not understand the language causes safety concerns..and lots of frustration.

Take the case of an individual with a very strong accent, on the wrong frequency, asking for something that was (a)unintelligible and (b) outside the zone by many miles. Throw in the fact that our NARDS (radar) display was gated to 10 miles and Bahgwanbaggaratshit wanted...after 8-10 transmissions and a frequency change...radar flight following so that he could practice his IFR.

The letter that came down from the Minister of Transport was written by a NEW CLASS 4 INSTRUCTOR out of YPK...and he wanted to fly under the hood without a safety pilot Because of the frustration level experienced during the dog fight my temper was stretched to the limit and all the time I had 7-8 aircraft in the circuit and plenty of arrivals and departures...And I was given a day in the park because I refused to give service outside of the zone...as per Manops...This was the only time in a 49 year career that I ever had a nasty letter on my file. And as MichaelP said I used to have a sense of humour while controlling.

It is all too easy to point fingers and I'm not taking sides on this issue but you really have to understand both sides of the scenario. I know that the individual at YPK has a hard time being understood but I've had nothing but good service from YPK and all of the towers in the lower Mainland,

"Barney Bay Tower"...and I'm now based a Langley so look out for the little yellow Boredom fighter

Same here, I have completed my Commercial and Multi-IFR in and around CZBB and CYPK, even after months of not flying and being rusty with radios/proceures I have never had an issue with ATC. Lets remember that ATC is one of the most stressfull jobs in the world, I have never known the ATC and flight services specialists to be anything but totally professional. These people have difficult jobs and with all the flight training in the area maybe we should cut these guys a little slack?

Yeah, I seem to hear that every time their contract runs out.

One time, at band camp, I heard about this ATC who's swivel
chair had one of those little wheels fall off. That must have
been pretty intense!

Driving instruction is the most stressful job in the world... Perhaps the controller had given his daughter a driving lesson in Richmond on the way to work 8)

What people fail to realise is that when there's a flood of aircraft ATC 'controlling' goes out the window (edited). I heard "go away" on the radio once when too many aeroplanes approached CZBB at one time!

At one of the PFA European Rallies one year they decided to have controllers... Aeroplanes were told to hold here and there, and over there, and were sometimes running out of fuel... In the hot summer weather tempers were being fried.
After one day of this they gave up...
...Put everything on a looping tape that was used to broadcast the 'ATIS' and let the stream of aeroplanes come in without the hinderance of ATC.
You make one call with registration and type on finals for the spotters to duly note them.

At Oshkosh it's shut up and listen, obey the instructions of ATC, and get on with it... But this is not the 'controlling' we see here.

What people fail to realise is that when there's a flood of aircraft ATC 'controlling' goes out the window and most controllers either take to whiskey or hide somewhere!
This is the type of comment that I would expect from this (FILL IN THE BLANK). With the numbers of off-shore students screwing up the system on a daily basis, it is no wonder that controllers have to restrict traffic.

But I guess nothing like this ever happens in Brittain where the world's greatest pilots come from and we would all wish he would return to.

I've been to Sun 'N Fun as well, and at such events you learn the procedure and file in with aircraft ahead and behind you. There's no 'controlling' such a situation as pilots all have to maintain their own separation.

This is not a Britain vs Canada thing at all.
As I wrote before, this is not a website to be making unfriendly assertions nor personal remarks.

So I was thinking about this this afternoon all the way to Langley in the Decathlon... A slow roll test showed it hadn't affected me too badly... then the return in the SportStar...

I agree, my comment about ATC taking to whiskey or hiding was ill advised and not well thought out, but there you are I'm not perfect.

What really bothers me is the remarks Barney has been making.

I have known Barney for a long time and I have a lot of good memories from it.
He has shown me the excellent model aircraft he has built, every detail exact, and there are few modellers in this world who compare.
We have passed humorous comments over the radio to each other in times gone past.
He has joined up in one our formation flights down the valley...
It has been, I thought, a friendly acquaintance.

I ignored the derisive comment about Diamond aircraft he wrote when he joined this forum. He has his right to his opinion and that must be respected.
But I could not ignore his comments about me. They were not founded in fact at all.
I wrote a considered PM to him about this, I don't want any nasty sniping on a public website, what purpose can it serve?
Now I know that Barney has a deep seated dislike of me, it just goes to show...

I will still say 'good morning' to him I suppose!

Let's not make slanderous, libelous, or nasty comments about each other on this public forum. Let's try to keep it positive.

Don't let it bother you. Grow a thicker skin. Lots of people say some
pretty terrible things about me, too. They attack my family - my
parents, my children - because they can't inflict any more damage to
me, which I think is despicable. When I finally get rid of all the of the
shiny airplanes, I am sure the attacks will stop.

Reminds me of an interview I heard with a dinosaur rock star - I think
it was the Doors. It was probably Ray, because he does all the interviews.

Anyways, this rock star had been tremendously famous, then his
career died and he was nobody, then he got to be famous again.

So, he had some perspective. His observation?

"If no one is suing you, you're nobody".

So, choose either to be nobody, or get used to the attacks.

My skin is thicker than an elephants a Thai might say... My hide was well tanned in my youth!
I am also straight, there's no undercurrent objective in my dealings with people and I suppose what bothers me is others are not like that.
Sometimes I get disappointed with people.

My point is:

"Let's not make slanderous, libelous, or nasty comments about each other on this public forum. Let's try to keep it positive."

Let's try to be friendly on this site... There's nothing worse than the appearance of sandbox politics in grown up aviators. IOW let's not be spiteful children.

Barney's right, an inability to communicate is dangerous. We already have rules for this, it's just that nobody enforces them.
