Yeah, almost all the alternates for Res... Benthorn, the Mine, Rae Point... they're all gone.

P.P.S. Dawson, in my humble opinion, has the trickiest winds in the Yukon sub-arctic.

Hi there I spent 3 seasons up there in the Yukon 2004-2006 all about 6 months Tours, previous to that I was in Pemberton and Inuvik. Awesome flying in the yukon, mostly flew the Islander to all the fun strips the Yukon has to offer. I would have stayed but I really wanted to try my hand at the IFR world. Once you get about 1200 hours in a BN2 you get a permanent ring in your ear and you get sick of rolling drums of fuel not to mention drill rod and core samples and pumping out of drums with the wobble pump, you want a change and the offer from Alkan to fly there 206 although more money I really wanted to try something new. I would have to say Rusty Springs or Delores Creek are the most challenging in the Yukon, Eagle plains can be interesting when she is really gusting,

.. mentioned Deloris Cr, it's bad enough in an airplane, but go a little bit further up into the cirque on the right... THEN it's REALLY bad... Of course that's where the drilling always seems to be. Murphy and his damn laws!

Have to Agree STL, I never really thought YDA was all that bad. And yes When I saw where they planned to drill I couldnt believe it.

You're right, I only got the couple seasons you recall but it's better than nothing! I admit I've never been in Burwash, just came close to a trip but it was cancelled last minute. You're the one with the big wheels in Dawson aren't you?

True, I have more time in the Flat Lands and still require lots of planning when I occasinally have to hop a plane through the Rockies or Yukon.

I wish I could learn more about it from you when I'm around. If you're the one I think, I liked the way you handled that tiny tail dragger a couple years ago in Dawson.

.. and STL, to each their own, but I stand by my comments. Dawson much trickier then the SW Yukon for winds. As a matter of fact I'm pretty much opposite of you guys, I always found CYDB and the Junction, pretty straight forward, but what do I know.

As far as winds go I found the Harmattan winds to be far more problem than any winds in Canada.

Not only can you not see anything and your engines will get wrecked by sand ingestion you can't even breath without covering your face with a cloth.

Makes the Yukon look like child's play.

Cat, I'd put the outflow from Klune Park up against almost anything once or twice a year... Dust picked up off the rivers and carried up to 10,000ft.... Not any worse, but comparable to many "bad" places.

yeh STL there can be really bad local conditions in many places that is for sure....but for pure hell the Harmattan is awsome because it comes up so fast and not only covers thousands of square miles of Northern Africa it even can spread dust and sand into Europe and for hundreds of miles out in the Atlantic.

When are you going to be in this area again...give me a call and we can have lunch together...I'll buy.

It is like an Arctic white out you can't see anything...except it is a light brown out due to the sand and dust.
