Re: Porter
How does upgrading to the left seat at Porter work? Is it based on specific flight time requirements or just seniority? My concern is, with all of this hiring, the experience pool of FO's being hired is obviously dwindiling from what it was say, a year ago, and it's only going to continue, right? Will an FO hired with just under 2000 hours TT be sitting right seat forever here?

Re: Porter
The upgrade process at Porter depends on several things.
Seniority is a factor when the candidate applies for an upgrade but it is not the only factor.
The Chief Pilot and the check pilots do take into consideration total time and past experience.
Whether or not a pilot is selected for upgrade training depends on their accumulated time on type, initial and reccurrent sim performance, annual line checks and pre-upgrade assessment line checks conducted by the check 'A' pilots.
The upgrade candidates are then given upgrade groundschool, sim training, line indoc and a line check (just like every other 705 operator).
The company takes the process very seriously. It's a fair but tough system and the closest thing I've seen to a meritocracy at an airline so far. I hope it stays that way.
A word of advice to pilots applying for f/o positions at Porter: Do not apply with the expectation of a quick upgrade. As with any other company, expect to learn, have a good time while doing it and apply for an upgrade when you're ready, not when you think the company's ready for you.

Re: Porter
I interviewed the first week of November and still no call.. I am guessing that it probably has to do with the aircraft delivery delays..? Trying to stay positive here..

Buddy of mine interviewed mid-October, got called and e-mailed an offer of employment today. Never told me when the ground school date is.
Re: Porter
Are they hiring direct entry captains? or just first officers?

I'm still in limbo as well.. Got about 300 more hours to hit 3000.. would be a bummer to miss out for that! No PFO yet though.. might just be taking longer with the Christmas rush of mail.
Re: Porter
Do they mail it out or is in an email?? I'm in limbo as well. Been about a month now.
And you ain't that tall!
