What's all this talk about holding YAV as an alternate? The PC-12 will hold YBR or YRL or YQT depending on the pax load departing YYQ. With 8 pax a PC-12 will hold YBR easily.
YRT-YZS you can always make land if you plot it out on a map with a 16:1 glide ratio. That's the glide ratio the books will give you.
A flying job is a flying job. No one is out to consciously kill themselves. So before all you peeps want to yap about someone elses job, look at your own. Disco Stu you are flying around in a noisy sewer pipe. I'd take the PC-12 any day cuz when I'm 50 I will be alive and well and have my hearing.

My rant isn't finished yet.
The captain that made the decision to go into YGX is the best in the company. He could have continued on to YYQ but instead of going on to a company base he took the passengers best interests into account and diverted to the closest airport for everyone's peace of mind. Turned out to be nothing and everyone had a smile on their face when another company plane got them to their destination.
Stu if your sewer pipe had a engine failure you would be diverting into YGX just as quickly as the next guy.
And CC calling good people goofballs just makes you look like a clown. Like I said before no one is trying to kill themselves. We fly because we enjoy it. If I had to fly my day in fear I wouldn't be flying.

It's better to break ground and head into the wind than to break wind and head into the ground.
I do believe there is some basic lack of understanding about the alternate requirements for IFR flight and they are the same for singles as they are for twins. Any airport the airplane is capable of operating out of can be used for an alternate. That means I can use Okotooks Alta as an alternate for Calgary in a Metro even though I cannot take-off from Okotooks with the load I brought in. As long as I can get legal for landing, I can land there. So I can land with 16 pax and bus them to YYC and take-off with a reduced weight (or haul the sucker out on a truck). If there is no IFR approach published, there are rules for that. Read the CAP GEN. So St. Andrews can be used as an alternate. Wx has to be good but it can be legal. No Alternate IFR is a way of life for many operators. Saves fuel and increases payload. Enough regulations make it safe. WE, as mere mortal pilots do not have much say in it because a type A or Type B dispatch system is required and what they say happens. We mere mortal pilots can only genafluct, nod our heads and get into the pointy end and turn it on. We do, however, have the final say but we also have support.
I thought the chip detector was disabled on the platapus but after the failure in Newfeyjohn, they were mandated back in. I may be wrong but if the manufacturer designs an airplane a certain way, some idiot TC type cannot just come along and tell operators to change the design. Our Great White Father only has limited powers.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.
