This is not true in the heli world, or in wildlife survey or forest fire fighting. / it can be by the hour as stl and others will state . I understand that the
time is when the collective is raised and the skids leave the ground. that is air time. based on points of the hour.

before ya slam something do a little research eh!

I'm no chopper expert, but I think that chopper that just crashed lost it's gearbox. 2 engines didn't help when there's still only a single component to transfer the power of those 2 engines. My attitude is the same on the PC-12. Where's the redundancy? There isn't any. 1 prop, 1 gearbox, 1 engine.

True enough.

In either airplanes or helicopters I've only worked at one outfit where charter was not by the hour.

Oldncold,

I bill from start to shut down these days, the engine's running? I'm getting paid - no Hobbs meter's either, unless it's with one or two customers like AB Forest Service who go off it, but there are ways around that too... ;-)

OK so I was spouting my mouth off a bit, my point was Ornge wants you to make speed and fuel burn. Last I checked I can do one or the other consistently, doing both is a bit of black magic. Some days you are gunna have head winds so you add a little extra to make time but there go your fuel burns, or you keep your cruise settings and get your fuel burns but there goes your block speed. Ever have them days when you feel like you are always flying into a head wind.
