I have about 600hrs on my 50D now in a very noisy biplane. its probably overkill for anything quiet, but if you need the passive and active noise cancellation it really seems to be the best.

I flew a hundred or so hours with a headsets inc modification.

When I first got my plane a friend brought me a whole bunch of different headsets to try. He had a headsets inc modified DC passive set which was better than the others so I sprung the $100 or so for the headsets inc conversion and flew with it for a year. Then I tried Headly's 50D in his 2 seat Pitts and was very impressed. I took it for a flight in my single seater and it was soo good I ordered one the next day.

Its very light and while it looks bulky you really don't feel it. I have a very tight canopy and it its not a problem. I also pull a lot of +/- G's and the weight is a non issue. I recently leant it to a friend that has an Eagle II and he was using a Bose. He landed and ordered one more or less immediately.

As for longevety well I don't pamper mine, it gets left in the plane between flights, is starting to get scuffed up, the ear cups are a bit ratty but the wires are all in good shape and I figure if any wires start to fray I'll just replace them and keep on going.

I also power mine either with batteries or the 12v cig lighter adapter. They come with an external power plug. One nice feature, if the voltage drops below about 12v the red light starts to flash so if you have an alternator or other charging failure you will see it in the headset controller LED before you pick it up anywhere else.

Cheers,

Peter
