I didn't ever do an actual shut down during my multi.

I did one. We weren't near an airport, though by the time we got it started again, we were over the airport.
I thought it was so cool seeing that feathered propeller, like I was in a B-17 coming home from a raid on Schweinfurt or something. In both cases, ignorance is bliss.
We had to haul that engine out because of an impending camshaft failure (stupid 76 series Lycomings). The AME who had previously done the work on it had been neglecting to check oil filters for metal.
