I'll bet you he even left his wife and kids high and dry...probably ran off with his "secretary"
What I want to know is how a "secretary" can afford a BMW 335xi and a jeep cherokee while the general manager EDITED can't even afford to fix his sunfire...I smell a rat (and it's not they're dinner this time..)

So Maylan is being investigated by the RCMP Commercial Crimes unit..I'll bet you even cpl_atc won't object to a tasering for these low lifes...might finally be a way for the stranded students to get their money back. Last time I checked, they had 235 students over here. At around $50,000 a pop up front...$11,750,000 CDN, and I guarantee that no where near all of that has been spent.
Last time I checked, EDITED was living in Florida after he drove off with the company hummer and probably buckets of cash...WTF does a flight school need a hummer for?
Bet you EDITED is back in China and will never touch Canadian soil again, nor see any prosecution.

If it's true, it wouldn't surprise me, but he does have family here. What would happen to them?

I care about the situation at maylan. I care that the students and former staff get back every penny owed to them. There are staff from the london base owed THOUSANDS in severance pay, vacation pay and overtime. I care that EDITED all get jail time for their criminal actions, including fraud.
I have my story straight. There are only a few people who know just as much, if not more as to what is going on there, and I guarantee you aren't one of them. Don't dare tell me I need to get the facts straight.
Maylan is bad news and the good employees and students didn't get what they deserved. Bottom line.
It's a badge of honour and proof that you really are a decent person to get fired because you didn't fit in with the company.
I've been in contact with quite a few of the students offering any assistance I can, like a ride to the Chinese embassy, or trying to track down their passports. so they can go home.
EDITED had no business screwing millions out of well meaning and ambitious students. I know for a fact that they're being investigated by the RCMP because I've already given a statement. The only people who would even find it necessary to defend maylan in the slightest are the people who had an active hand in screwing over the good people.
Anyone who defends maylan needs to remove themselves from the gene pool for the sake of humanity.

As a past Instructor at Maylan I saw it coming like a frieght train and as such resigned last APR/MAY 2010.
I cared too for my students but could do nothing about the situation myself and decided to wash my hands of the whole affair. With the info I had, I tried to warn my students. I told them I thought it was criminal what was taking place but thier hands were tied.
EDITED - No Names
appears to be a crook on the move and had a history with Gander long before London.
I think I could add additional insight to the growing RCMP file.

Two months after it abruptly closed, leaving dozens of students and employees in the lurch, a London flight school is being investigated by the Mounties, The Free Press has learned.
The Maylan Flight Academy, which had operated at London International Airport until June, came to the attention of the RCMP’s commercial crime unit after it was tipped by a local politician.

Interesting,
I instructed at london when it was Empire - ah the good ol days. Did the original principle of empire have any capacity with maylan? Or did he just sell out.

I agree! I know of a flight instructor that removed himself from the school months before this even happened. He saw it coming. In an e-mail he told me that he quit because of their policies and the fact that the company just wanted to make $$$$ and did not give 1/100th of a f**k about the students' education. NO ONE should defend Maylan.... there are many employees and students that have been f**ked over by that selfish idiot. Justice needs to be served.

Has anyone out there had to go back to Maylan to get a record of employment for whatever reason? Is it still possible?

The owner of Maylan is now in cahoots with the folks running Blue Bird Flight Academy next door. Maybe I am missing something but shouldn’t the owner of Maylan have to pay his former employees from Maylan before he can invest money into Blue Bird Flight Academy?

Sadly, no. He could have paid himself huge dividends as an owner in Maylan and not pay employees, creditors, etc. When Maylan runs out of money, he can shut the doors and run with his money.
Maybe you guys should get a lawyer and see what he can do for you.

As soon as Blue Bird opened, I knew they were trouble too. Same category as Empire. [When maylan was called Empire Aviation].

Empire, Maylan same hangar, same airplanes. I was only in there once, and it was about a week before they changed the name. Got a bad impression of the place, and never went back.

I did my PPL training at Empire on their 172s. I was fairly happy with the training I received. The instructors and staff were always friendly and helpful. It was sometimes difficult to make bookings because of all the UWO students, but it worked out in the end. When Empire finally sold their last 172 I tried to make the transition to the DA20, but I'm a big guy and the plane was just too small. I ended up moving on to Aero Academy (and have since moved on again). Anyways, I had no complaints about the planes, facilities, or the instructors.

Empire was bought out by Maylan well before the name was changed. What you got when you went there was the Maylan experience...before it was called the Maylan experience...
I flew with Empire for about a year before the change and it was a great place to fly. Generally friendly people, experienced instructors and Mx staff, lots of non-snagged airplanes...etc..etc.
R.I.P. Empire Aviation

How many more students are going to get screwed before the axe falls? Another of the same type of operation mentioned on this thread is now operating in the Fraser Valley after failures in the great white East and I'm hearing stories of students getting shafted there as well. One student wanted to transfer to another school only to be told "if you want your PTR, that will be $2000.00, CASH". I've heard of cases where the rates vary according to the person on the desk..no invoices issued.
These schools are being operated by recent newbies to this country but we as Canadians are being blamed. What's next?
