Thanks for the link.
Are there really questions about wood structure? and dope and fabric?
I've also heard that there aren't questions on some topics and a shitload on others. As there is no emphasis on any topic in the study guide, I am finding that is the problem with deciding what to study. Will there be 10 questions on wood, 5 on metal, 20 on helicopters, 0 on electrical, or what?

The new tech exams are no joke. Study hard and get your hands on as many "practices" exams as you can. The questions range from fabric on an old cub to brakes on a 747. Be prepared or I assure you will be in for shocker.

Get the Jepesson Test Guide books. Watch out because Jepessen makes study guides and workbooks as well. The workbooks and Study guides are useless. The TEST GUIDE BOOKS are pure gold. Airframe is the best

Hey lyle, what did you use for the engines exam? Failed it myself. Did you use old exams or did you use the jeppeson study guide that has questions and answers?

Borrowed the textbooks from a guy who just finished school.

Hey Guys/Girls,

I am writing my technical exams with Transport Canada(Powerplant,Airframe,General) and looking for some studying advice.

Has anyone recently done any of these?

I found a website called "dauntless aviation" that preps you for the FAA exams. Has anyone tried this site, it cost about $90 and was wondering if is worth it. Are the questions similar to the TC exams?

Any help would be appreciated.

I think my wife looked into that site, but some of their practice exams have wrong answers. Not sure though. This is for flying stuff though, not AME.

I tried the dauntless software. All Faa question. Save youself some money. Read the Jeppesen books cover to cover you'll get more out of it. I tried just faa questions and failed a exam. good luck

I wrote my Airframe and failed by a couple of questions a couple of weeks ago. I strongly recommend you read the jeppesen cover to cover. I was kicked in the groin by TC with the helicopter questions which were about 40 of them on the exam. If you can get a hold of the jeppesen helicopter book this would help you considerably. I can write again in a couple weeks and am going to attempt it.

Thanks for the advice so far guys, anyone out there have any practise exams for powerplant/airframe/general. I have the Jeppesen test guides but looking for all the help I can get. I am pretty good hands on but exams and books are definately my weakness.

Would be willing to trade some cold ones for any exams!!!

Studying like crazy, but all the practice exams seem to be CARS only.

I passed my last Airframe exam yesterday
I used ASA prep test book from aviation world
It was very helpful but you need to know pretty much everything
I failed my first attempt on standard exam but it helped me a lot
After I knew what I had to study for that exam
Powerplant was HARD I used text book and ASA prep test and passed it
Airframe was OK but you need to study ASA prep test

transport has the testing critera on their website. Then use your general, a/f and pp textbooks to research. each book has test workbooks you can buy. some of the q's for tc exams are from there.

qa guy is setting you up to fail. study up on the textbooks, the transport "study guide" is just the table of contents of the textbooks. but study up and go write, you might pass, you probably won't. book again in 30 days then you will pass as you will know what to expect. I went to too many tech exams convinced that I would be able to pass it based on my knowledge and experience and the tips of the older guys. You can't look at it that way. The test is not fair, it doesn't evolve the way a normal college or university test would evolve because transport won't let it. you can't complain to anyone, or even legally discuss the contents of the exam, read what you sign to take it. Lots of guys that go through colleges think these exams aren't difficult because they have been coached to pass them. Their knowledge extends to passing exams, it doesn't make them good engineers. Just don't get discouraged if you don't pass the first time, as you are not supposed to, lol. the fifty bucks is not a big deal think of all the money and respect you will get when you do suceed

your best bet is the jeppsen series and asa prep.
