Yikes! Can you imagine doing that in the winter? I don't think using a helicopter would work for dropping someone off at the top. First, hitting such a small target would be near impossible and second, the static electricity build up without the chopper being grounded to the tower would probably zap the dickens out of the poor guy dangling at the end of the line!

It's ironic that the size of balls you'd need to do that, you'd never be able to climb the tower with them...lol

I climb latters like a Koala Bear, 4 point contact at all times ... Couldn't pay me all the money in the world to do that! I wonder how much those guys get paid, anyone?

Wow. I rarely even fly that high. I have no problem with heights, but that's just nuts. I guess the upside is that the wife still gets to spend the paycheque and it had better be massive. I only watched the first few seconds - I don't have a defibrulater in the house - much more and I would have needed one.

From my days as a high rise scaffolder I can assure you that fall protection harnesses are sometimes a danger in and of themselves. While they prevent a worker from piling into the parking lot below, they have been known to break and constrict limbs as well as strangle people. During my training, we were told that if a fall was inevitable one should make a clear break and avoid scrambling for the tether or handhold to prevent entangling yourself. Try and remember that wisdom when your 14 stories high on a windy January day in Winnipeg! Even if one fell "properly" there is considerable risk for internal bleeding. There's also a 60 minute 'hang time' rescue window after which the fallen worker risks circulation damage and possibly death.

I was offered a job once repairing concrete on the CN Tower from a swing stage and the pay was exactly $16/hr. I was making more than that sitting on the ground mixing mortar.

As for the video, even though I knew the end result, my stomach was still twisted watching it...my favourite part came at about 7:40 when the guy says "...and now for the tricky part, getting on top" WTF, was the rest of it just a cake walk?
