When I was doing checkrides, I would mark down any pilot who tried to handbomb an ILS. The autopilot did a much better job.


I would like to invite you down to YYT. With 30KTs and 1200 RVR's, and the death roll off Rwy 11, the Auto pilot is useful, and part of the bag of tricks. But .. It cannot always keep up with the situation. A competent pilot CAN do a better Job, and a handbomb ILS is the difference between safe operations while getting the job done, and a miss 5oo' or more above Mins 'cause the autopilot chased the needles to full scale.

And yes, we do have a decent autopilot.

Flying is better than walking. Walking is better than running. Running is better than crawling. All of these however, are better than extraction by a Med-Evac, even if this is technically a form of flying.
