I'd switch careers and make some money for a change. It would probably be a blessing.

Nope. You can get critical illness coverage from an insurance company. It covers a very wide range of illnesses. Not aviation specific but does cover your ass should such a thing happen.
I have it for piece of mind for myself and my family.

Careful, there are lots of medical conditions that are not considered critical but will cause you to lose your license.

Once I was experienced and had choices, working for an operator with good benefits and license insurance definitely was a factor.

I'm in school for Pre Health and going into Medical Laboratory Science. I'm looking forward to a stable life, better pay and a home of my own :)
